Thanks to Beate for offering me her premiere tickets, I and a_person had the opportunity to see this stunning, epic film in the presence of the royal couple, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge! While we waited for the royal couple to arrive we were assailed with the writer, director and the cast, including Joey the horse, on the red carpet. At one stage, a_person and I were standing right next to Jeremy Irvine, only to be shouted at by the press to get out of the way, who were stuck behind the barrier and must have been waiting hours, and we had just arrived! :D

Prince William and Kate were lovely but the meet and greet were endless as superhero already reported, and I could see one of the aides/staff trying to hurry them along. Once Kate and William found their seats, we all stood up while the national anthem was played by a fanfare of trumpets. Then Alex Zane came on stage and welcomed the royal couple and then introduced the writer, Stephen Spielberg, and the cast one by one. Finally the film started. The star of the film was definitely Joey the horse.

The bond between Joey the horse and Jeremy Irvine, was beautifully told, and then the First World War through the horse's perspective is amazing, and how he touched the lives of all he meets. Thought the film was quite breathtaking at times, and very sentimental, but worked for me. I went through so many emotions in this film, from humor, to sadness, to tears of joy. The two scenes in No Man's Land - the charges of the soldiers, had me really appalled by the devastation, and I really felt for Joey the Horse getting caught in the barbed wire in No Man's Land, and the scene to free him was really touching.

The clapping seems to be endless too at the end of the film and it was nice to see the young royals staying right to the end of the credits and until the lights went up. Unlike Charles and Camilla who left as soon as the credits came on at the Hugo premiere. From where we sat, we could see Kate and William coming in and leaving. She is so slim! 9/10

He's a retired racehorse that can act!
In War Horse, the very best of what Finder does—charging, rearing, and even playing the poignant scenes upon which the story turns—lights up the movie, and reveals the astounding movie-making talent of a failed racehorse.

But what he does best, similar to an actor who can emote, is explode. On cue, in small spaces, or while rollicking across open fields, Finder can look the part of the most uncontrollable beast.

Yes, there were 14 Joey's but Finder's Key did quite a lot - even playing the mother of the foal.
He's quite a hardworking horse, he has also had a role in CSI Miami, where he was dyed black.

Here's an interesting interview with the trainer.

So where did you sit? When did it finally start? Any goodies at your seats? Pictures?

You lucky people! Must say I feel privileged to have seen this superb film on the day of its premiere. This always adds something to the feeling of being special. Thsi os definitely one film where the TellTen mantra will work. I shall be singing it from the roof tops tomorrow.

An interesting thought just struck me. Did anyone else notice several scenes where there were ?snowflakes floating around? There was also a scene where a bayonet was waved rather excessively towards the audience. I wonder if those were the scenes that might be part of War Horse 3D or a future conversion?

For what it's worth - from me sitting in the very front row this morning - I could convince myself that the snowflakes were really floating in the auditorium! Does that mean that some of the 3D experience is all in the mind? You've pa*d for 3D therefore you experience it? Emperor's New Clothes maybe?

I think War Horse must be a very strong contender for a number of awards, incliding Oscars.
It is epic and will definitely become a classic film.
How will they decide which Joey horse gets the Oscar????
Preferred cinemas: Best: Glasgow Quay, Glasgow Braehead, Glasgow Renfield Street, Glasgow Fort & Paisley
Others I'd go to: Glasgow Showcase Baillieston
