The Conspirator

I haven't heard much about this yet but it's coming out this Friday and seems to be the only one on my Cineworld WIQ listing that I haven't seen already. It's got a sterling cast as well:

Should I risk a voucher?

Oh yeah I heard about that. I am interested to see this because of James McAvoy and Jonathan Groff though I cannot say anything about how good or bad it is as I haven't seen a single review for it...

I'm annoyed that it's not showing at any of the non-central London Odeon locations.

edi: well, it is, but not any closer than 45-60 minutes away.

102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

From what I've heard it's fairly dull, despite the interesting subject matter and excellent cast. Similar to the worthy but tedious Lions for Lambs.

I kind of have to use a voucher on this as it runs out this weekend and there's not much else I'm even half bothered about... Hopefully it won't be too dull.

Went to see this today at Wandsworth. There werent many people at the screen but it was very busy at the cinema. (probably people trying to see Transformers)

It tells the story Mary Surratt very well with dazzling imagery and great dialog. Robin Wright Penn is so underrated as an actress. Her raspy Southern accent and her brave trepidation very convincing and she owned that role. James McAvoy isn't bad although his character IS the prototypical lawyer-gone-good. His American accent is rather spot-on....I think. :shifty:

To bad that the story itself at times the plot seems to drag on and on but whatever the case may be, if you are patient enough to see it through, this is an excellent movie about the excessive force that governments wield during times of war and crisis. It really makes you think. It is awful how the prosecutors twisted and corrupted the system just to punish someone. I understand why, in a way. People have a need to finish things, yet is is horrible that they corrupted their perception and looked at this woman as if she were guilty instead of innocent.

Really makes you wonder how much of it was true but overall the film is held together by its leading performances and its eye for small, but important details. 6/10 Justice done, not really

This wasn't as dull as I'd expected, at 2 hours it might test your patience, but I actually quite liked it, mainly thanks to a very good cast (apart from Justin Long who was just wrong for this). Wasn't aware of Mary Surratt's story, shocking to see how she was treated by the court, for the greater good of the nation. Redford's direction is decent enough but nothing spectacular, and McAvoy just about gets away with the accent... 7/10
