What a load of tosh. Tacky and cheesy from start to finish and insipid romance between the two leads. Considering this is being marketed as a dance film, I didn't think the dance scenes were that impressive and there weren't that many. It didn't need to be almost 2 hours long, and I definitely felt the long running time.

3/10

This was my 100th free film of the year, and I wish it had been something else to mark the occasion.

I'm wondering whether to get out of bed and go and see this in morning, quite mixed reviews on here.....mostly bad though, daughter wants to go, so will probably drag myself there.

Well done on your 100th film funthing29.....I'm trailing pityfully.
Preferred Cinema's now Paignton or Exeter!

That worked with me, I thought it was going to be awful after what people had been saying, but did enjoyed it (even shed a few tears) :D
Ditto! I enjoyed this film, and my mum and friends did too! But agree with funthing, not enough dance scenes or impressive ones! 7/10 Well done on your 100th, funthing!

Swiss Cottage Odeon was packed, there was one seat left on the aisle, in front of my mum, but the usher just walked past it when showing latecomers a seat, wonder what was wrong with it, and there was a really tall guy sitting next to it right in front of me! His neck and head stood 1 foot away from the top of the seat, so I literally had to sit leaning almost on top of my mum to see the screen for the whole duration of the film! Why do I always get a tall guy and why don't they sit lower in their seats rather than upright, and why do they have to sit bang in the middle of the screening room to block my view! :wall:

kevinknapman wrote:Corny, cliched & predictable with a consistently clunky script but also oddly enjoyable and good fun. Footloose is an entirely unnecessary remake with it's fair share of cringeworthy moments but overall I liked it. Admittedly time hasn't been exactly kind to the fairly implausible plot device of a town banning dancing (It was far-fetched in the 80's and even more so now) but that doesn't matter too much.
Kenny Wormald is a likeable replacement for Kevin Bacon and Julianne Hough is at least more attractive than Lori Singer. Miles Teller is also good as the best friend Willard (his dance practice montage is the best part of the film). The adults are fine. Dennis Quaid is on solid if unspectacular form and Deadwood's Ray McKinnon is excellent value as Ren's uncle. Rather worryingly though a couple of well-established actresses are completely wasted. Both Andie McDowall and Kim Dickens as the previously mentioned actor's wives are absent for quite long stretches of the film (especially Dickens) and are only given a couple of significant scenes.
Footloose is, admittedly,a fairly pointless remake but it's confidently directed by Craig Brewer and an enjoyable enough way of wasting a couple of hours.
Thanks kk - exactly what I would have wrote if I could write like you!! Well said.

I still can't quite believe how much I enjoyed this. Great fun left me smiling. Going to give it a write up later but probably a 4/5

Went in with low expectations but enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
.
The main negative was the the two leads. Kenny Wormald reminded me a little of Paul Le Mat without the acting ability and Julianne Hough looked like a young Jennifer Aniston but was bland.
Miles Teller was the standout for me with some good one liners, only having seen him before in Rabbit Hole this role was a real contrast.

As remakes though go this was one of the better efforts and I would probably put in on a par with the original.

I enjoyed it, wasn't expecting much but overall a good way to while away a few hours. My niece (26) and nephew (16) loved it and danced their way out of the cinema. I must admit though I hated the Boston accent!

Yip, an entirely unnecessary but reasonably entertaining remake of an 80s film that was of it's time! Why the remake I'm not sure.

This was well enough done with a silly story to work from. Soem good performances from the uncle and the best friend.

Still think Kevin Bacon could dance him under the table though??!!

6/10 for beeing cheery! Edinburgh was full this morning. I think everyone and their granny will have seen this before it opens given the number of free screenings though!
