Yes I'm sure. :p

It would be a different viewing experience to watch it having read the source material and I have a voucher about to expire anyway...

Yeah I think it'll be a different viewing experience for you too :) That's why I reread the books before watching. And for once the movie actually adds more dimensions to the books to (showing us more of the scope of the Capital and the Gamesmakers)

What did you think of the book btw?

I thought it was a decent read but a bit simplistic and lacking in detail. I intend to complete the trilogy but it's not something I would rave about.

I did something radical today.

I used a voucher and went to a regular screening.

And boy are the people there annoying. Light pollution from the left (guy tapping on his phone throughout the entire movie), noise pollution from the right (family with two small kids and of course one babbles throughout the film, for f**k's sake).

Other than that, film was quite enjoyable though not as good as the book. Yes I know that you have to condense a lot but a number of events felt terribly rushed. Also, the mockingjay wasn't explained at all, so it will have to be in the second film the latest. Loved Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss, but that's not difficult as the other characters didn't really get much to do.

OH absolutely loved the film. I give it an 8/10. Maybe I would have liked it even better if I hadn't read the book beforehand?

This is my theory, in part. I think it read it too soon beore watching it. I'm hoping to watch it again next week and enjoy it more, with less focus on what has changed.

I did too, last weekend. I was shocked at how expensive the tickets were, and was glad that I had my free vouchers to p*y for them!

I missed this whole Hunger Games thread as I was on holiday and I do not have time to trawl 35 pages!

Anyway, here's my belated review.

I actually found this quite bland. Where was the "hunger", I didn't feel it and and didn't feel the tension of being hunted and trying to survive. I did not feel how things came to be the way it was. The tributes were stereotypes and had no depth or back story to relate to, so I didn't have an interest whether they survived or not, except the two heros. Jennifer Lawrence was good though, and worth watching the film for, but the boy who played Peeta, made him quite wimpy? Is that how it is in the book or is he miscast? I also enjoyed watching Woody Harrelson and Donald Sutherland. But the film did not do anything for me, and I do not know what all the hype is about. The politics and social story should have been gripping. I was not convinced the kids came from the districts, but it was all very beautiful though. Perhaps, I should have read the book first. 5/10

Aww, disappointed that I seem to be in the minority here. Not sure it's a bad thing that they made the death of children less graphic and while I also found Peeta a bit bland, did in the book as well!

Also: TOTALLY baffled that Rue being black could ruin that movie for anyone! Even if she hadn't been described specifically as such in the book, the little girl was unbelievabley adorable...

Yeah, it's not like a dystopian North America is suddenly without blacks. But there are racists everywhere I am afraid.
