Disneynature's Chimpanzee
Can't see a thread, please merge if there is one!
Thanks to ritamistry for the tickets for this morning's screening at Covent Garden.
Lots of family with young children, and our very own FMUK one too. tilly's little girl Isabel is absolutely adorable, she is now fully walking and talking, and can she talk, and open too, announcing to the whole cinema, my mummy's gone to the toilet! Considering there were so many young children, it was a pretty quiet screening. Lovely to catch up with greece, livi92 and dad, and nice to see shmile.
I thought this was very beautifully filmed, the scenery was gorgeous, the little baby chimp Oscar, which the documentary revolves round is cute. It was a very intimate study, and very touching. A very gentle nature film. I loved it. And we got some really nice tickets too, just like premiere ones! 9/10

was nice to prettyxcool, tilly's little girl (sry Tilly I guess I missed you) and Livi92's Dad :)
This movie/documentary about baby chimpanzee Oscar was so beautiful and cute and so touching awwwww I loved it, the storytelling and the soundtracks made it exciting and a bit sentimental too to the point that you can even relate to the animals and see that we humans are not the only ones that care and love but animals do too, and it was also nice to see some extras where the crew remembers show how was it to be in Uganda's flora and fauna

Re: Disneynature's Chimpanzee
This was more a story than a documentary, but I was okay with that as it was similar in "African Cats" so I knew what to expect and it did make it easier to connect to the various different chimpanzees than if they'd just been filmed without the creation of names or an overal story arc.
Oscar was very, very cute, which definitely helped and there were plenty of gorgeous shots of the jungle (particularly loved some of the scenes where the vegetation's growth was sped up) and the animals in their natural habitat.
I really enjoyed the brief scenes during the credits showing some of the tricks the filmmakers used to create the film as well as what they had to endure for their art. In fact, I enjoyed seeing this so much that now I want a documentary on them making the film!

I agree, i think a docu on the making of the film would be brilliant and entertaining!

Re: Disneynature's Chimpanzee
Such a "film making" documentary already exist (BBC I reckon); I will try to find you the link
For me it was just typical Disney flick, when they need to show you good guys vs bad guys (poor Scar, not only he is disfigured, he has to play the baddie and does not even deserve a real name!?). Over use of anthropomorphism and sentimentalism. I certainely would not rate this as a documentary, but don't get me wrong, I am a sucker for animals and I still enjoyed this (and I found Oscar absolutely adorable).

Re: Disneynature's Chimpanzee
This is what I was referring to: Life (on location), a 10-minutes extra at the end of each episode of BBC Life series showing the filmmaking techniques. I can't seem to find a working streaming link but you can find more info here (and blocked links) http://blog.wooshii.com/2010/11/amazing ... -location/
I remember being very impressed by the Plants one.

Re: Disneynature's Chimpanzee
Big thank you to Prettyxcool for taking me as her plus one.
Really pleasant film to watch on a Sunday morning. The visuals were stunning and a great concept (docu-film). I loved how they filmed all the action and how they presented it, in a story-like way. The narration was great, and I really felt like I was going on a journey with little Oscar. Oscar was sooooo cute and it was great to see the chimps in their natural habitat.
I liked how the film appealed to all ages. I also thought it was quite educational and informative, which is especially good for younger children.

Re: Disneynature's Chimpanzee
Thanks Celini. I have googled and come up with a four minute clip of "making of Chimpanzee”:Celini wrote:Such a "film making" documentary already exist (BBC I reckon); I will try to find you the link

Very interesting. I really cannot see how the story was manipulated. Makes me admire this film even more.
Straight after the film, I was discussing how amazed I was that they managed to get so close to the chimpanzee, and it seems from this blog that they are “habituated", "These are chimps where scientists have spent literally five to ten years getting the chimps used to a human presence."
It still took them four years to film.

Nice story for a Sunday morning, although I found something was missing. Just can't put my finger on exactly what. Gorgeous shots, adorable chimps and good company made it worth getting up for.
