Re: The World's End
the soundtrack certainly takes you back. I do miss the beautiful south, that knowingness of lyric that seems vacant in music today.

Re: The World's End
This was so stupid in a good way. it took me several viewings to appreciate Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz (didn't like either at first and now I do really like them), but enjoyed The World's End in one go. Maybe I've gotten used to the type of humour? I don't know, it was good fun though.

Re: The World's End
I was very disappointed with this. Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz are both uplifted by a pleasant optimism - but at the heart of this film is an unpleasant joy in cynicism and sourness.
Here's my full thoughts.

Don't get me wrong, there are very funny moments, and it's very well constructed technically - but it left a sour taste in my mouth.

Re: The World's End
I've been a fan of these guys since the days of Spaced so unsurprisingly had a lot of fun watching this, it's the kind of humour that appeals to me, the cast is fantastic, pretty good soundtrack too (I remember a lot of it from the 80s/90s!), like others I wasn't too keen on the ending but still... 8/10.

Re: The World's End
This was such a disappointment for me. I had really wanted to see this even though I don't remember that much of the two other films in the Cornetto Trilogy but I had seen Paul and loved it so assumed it might be similar. I spent my last Picturehouse vouchers on it on a day when I really didn't have the time for it as I have loads to do before my holiday.
Yes there are some funny bits in it but it wasn't nearly as hilarious as the guys in front of us thought it was. When you are only mildly amused, constant laughter just grinds you down even more and those two were beyond annyoing. Oh there is a Cornetto paper flying past - hilarious!
It started ok with an exploration of male friendship but veered seriously off tanget when zombie robots suddenly lost their heads spurting blue blood. I mean WTF - what does WTF even mean? (Har har).
The pub brawls got really boring and the ending - plain terrible. The only fun was spotting actors in cameos like the couple from Sightseers and Rafe Spall to name a few but it basically meant lots of good actors were wasted in tiny roles.
I couldn't wait for this world to end.

Re: The World's End
Used another Sky Cineworld voucher code to see this today (pretty much straight after the 'Now You See Me' screening) and definitely thought this was weaker than both 'Shaun Of The Dead' & 'Hot Fuzz'.
It got off to a slow start and although it did improve significantly once the pub crawl reunion got started it never really managed to hit the heights achieved by the previous two flicks therefore it's hard to view this as anything other than a slight disappointment.
That said, viewed in isolation it's a decent film (with a great soundtrack) and I was surprised (pleasantly) by how well choreographed the fight sequences were so overall I think it definitely did enough to deserve a 7/10 from me...

Re: The World's End
This movie seemed tailor made for me, I'm a huge fan of their work and the themes of recapturing youth and friends moving on should have resonated with me as I'm a similar age, but like a few others I left very disappointed.
I'm not sure why it didn't work for me, but I know I didn't laugh much and there was no emotional connection at all. Shaun of the Dead's conclusion deftly balanced action, drama and comedy in such a fantastic way that this didn't even come close to.
Maybe the unlikeable lead or the Hot Fuzz like setup (mysterious small town) or the endless Scott Pilgrim like fight scenes were all part of the problem or maybe the whole premise was flawed, seriously would anyone carry on the pub crawl after what was going on?!
Anyway I've just picked up Paul from Tesco (the movie, not a friend of mine) and I will look forward to the next time Shaun of the Dead is on ITV2, but I doubt I will be watching this again
Oh, just in case this is being added to the new movie score thread then it's a low 4/10 for me.

Re: The World's End
Certainly wasnt the worst film that I have seen recently but there was something about it that didnt really work for me.
At times I felt it was cringeworthy rather than particularly funny which is a shame as I really like the other two films ( Shaun of the Dead being the best IMO)
