The Heat

Don't think there's a thread yet? Saw the gala screening last night at the Curzon Mayfair courtesy of a Twitter comp. o/

Spotted canadian_turtle, funthing29, martadelas, prettyxcool, ritamistry, caitlinmorton and Livi92, so not a bad turnout from FMUK. We get everywhere! o/ Although we were spread out this time, there were a few of us clumped together at the previous week's premiere, Come As You Are.

It's not a masterpiece, but it's a good Sandra Bullock film. If you like her previous comedies, you'll enjoy this. If you don't like her work, this won't win you over.

I thought Melissa McCarthy was a lot funnier in The Heat than she was in Identity Thief, which I know a lot of you liked, but was just too full of fat jokes for me and not much else. Here, she was playing her usual part, but it just felt more entertaining, so I guess the writer was better, it's not as if McCarthy did anything new.

Pxc was on the red carpet for a while and at the front of the screening room when Sandra Bullock made an appearance (stunning lady in real life, some actors just don't age) so maybe there are paparazzo shots to come? ;)

Solid 3/5.

Thought Bullock was a little, well, she's had some stuff done which is showing up a little.
Covered the red carpet for this last night, Jessica Chaffin and Jamie Denbo, who play obnoxious girlfriends in the film, were insanely funny in interviews.
Can't say my thoughts on the film until July though.

This was SO much better than Man of Steel which I saw the night before! It wasn't groundbreaking and most of it was very predictable but it was good fun and got a fair few chuckles out of me. Agree with EthanRunt on Sandra Bullock's appearance (it was very distracting at times) and Melissa McCarthy played the same character she's played in all her recent films. Still, the film is a decent enough comedy and I'm happy I went to see it (and I'm not just saying that because of the free big bars of black and greens chocolate we got. Okay, maybe just a little...).

I enjoyed this more than I expected to. It was not consistently funny and some of the jokes fell a bit flat, but when it was funny, it was hilarious. My favourite scene was when the man was choking in the restaurant, that one had me in stitches. I thought Bullock & McCarthy made a good double act but did notice Bullock’s facial expressions don’t change very much as the muscles have clearly been injected with something! The use of the f-word was far too excessive and became grating by the end. 6.5/10 from me.

Did I love it? No. But I did laugh and for what it was it was just right. Not too demanding, not very ambitious, just your summer comedy. Basically it delivered exactly what you'd expect from it.

I was there also!

I think I mainly enjoyed it but it was definitely not a film that I would class as GREAT, just GOOD.

Yes, I was on the red carpet, and got photos of Bullock's back mostly as she was surrounded by her bodyguard and PR lady, but got some of her inside the cinema when she did a quick intro with the director, Paul Feig, who I managed to pose with on the red carpet in his bowler hat and striped suit. Also got Kimberley Garner (Made in Chelsea), Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones and Tudors) and Katie Dippold, who wrote the screenplay.

I thought the film was really funny and I totally enjoyed it, helped by the bar of Green and Black chocolate. I thought Sandra and Melissa had great chemistry and made a good double act, and most of the scenes are so exaggerated that it was hilarious. Not very original plot, but the script is funny and entertaining. 8/10

We thought this was absolutely hilarious. We laughed from start to finish. McCarthy arresting the kerb crawler then chasing the dealer was awesome. She and uptight Bullock made a dream team. They really sparked off each other. OH's eyes were like saucers throughout. It was quite bloody at times which was a bit unexpected (OMG that tracheotomy!)
Be sure not to leave right away when the credits start rolling as there is a very funny scene with a cat half-way through.

But as much as we like air-conditioned cinemas - the Odeon Greenwich was freezing.

This is well funny! Lots of laughs in Edinburgh tonight.
A perfect Bridesmaidsey comedy.
Yep - a lot is gross-out humour and a lot is so predictable and repetitive and not particularly intelligent, but it is hilarious.

Definitely worth a second viewing if the chance comes up again.
