Set in modern-day Britain, HARRY BROWN follows one man’s (Sir Michael Caine) journey through a chaotic world where drugs are the currency of the day and guns run the streets. A modest law-abiding citizen, Harry Brown is a retired Marine and a widower who lives alone on a depressed housing estate. His only company is his best friend Leonard (David Bradley). When Leonard is murdered by a gang of thugs, Harry feels compelled to act and is forced to dispense his own brand of justice. As he bids to clean up the run-down estate where he lives, his actions bring him into conflict with the police, led by investigating officer DCI Frampton (Emily Mortimer) and Charlie Creed-Miles.

Please note it clashes with Taking Woodstock!

Saw clips of this film at Movie-Con, a rather dark opening, a sequence in which Michael Caine gets weaponed up in a seedy area, and him taking out some ruffians, besides being unbelievably bleak, it looked like it could be a cracker.

There is a good reason it's an 18 though.

I was going to joke about your age but after seeing the trailer, I'm glad you're under 18!

This is the sort of film which my husband will enjoy. Let's hope we get more previews in other locations around the country.

True - but you know this kind of thing always makes for a good film, especially as it's true to life. In this day and age, I fear it is a case of life imitating art. Or is it the other way round now?? I am looking forward to watching this, I was lucky enough to get a pair of tickets. It's been a while since we got a preview of something gritty with a good central character/actor too!

I've got tickets for this but have intentionally not read much about it (I always think it's best to go to the cinema not knowing much about a film and then being surprised). I did however read a piece saying it was just the British Gran Torino. Any thoughts on this?

I think the factual and harsh depictions of life tend to make good, powerful films.
