Re: The Wolf Of Wall Street
I was so impressed with this. Even though it is 3 hours long, I was enthralled throughout. The performances are amazing, DiCaprio and Hill are superb and there is unexpected humour with some moments which had me genuinely laughing out loud (especially the scene at the country club).
It is full of explicit material but the direction is spot-on, combined with stylish and glamorous visuals as well as a strong script with well-defined characters, this may well turn out to be my film of the year.
9.5/10.

Re: The Wolf Of Wall Street
I overcame my aversion to Leonardo di Caprio to see this today and found it entertaining enough, though it was definitely far too long - I suppose the length was consistent with the general theme of excess, but tauter and shorter would have been better in my opinion.
Given that I saw this at the same cinema where I'd experienced people talking throughout the film the week before, I was relieved to find an attentive audience this time, but I was amazed that people were prepared to p*y such shocking admission prices (this was at a Vue, which has no membership scheme) and for a morning performance. I used a gift card received as compensation for a past problem but as the film happened to be showing in an "Extreme" auditorium, even the senior price would otherwise have been £10.45; the full adult rate £14.75 and for a premium seat £16.70 - who on earth can afford these prices and is willing to p*y them? Many of my theatre tickets cost far less than the cheapest ticket for this screening.
Hard to rate as this isn't going to be one of my best of the year, but I suppose I can see it's worth an 8 despite not being entirely to my taste.

Re: The Wolf Of Wall Street
Went to see this on Friday and although it was by no means a perfect movie I still really enjoyed it.
In terms of the 'issues' that I had with it, I wasn't completely comfortable with how DiCaprio's narration etc was incredibly similar to Ray Liotta's in 'Goodfellas' and in addition to that I felt the final thirty or so minutes were ever so slightly dull compared to what had preceded them.
That said, both DiCaprio & Hill gave superbly OTT performances and they were surrounded by a very decent collection of supporting actors.
In terms of the 'fruity' language, I can't say that it bothered me at all (I will confess that I'm not adverse to using the odd colourful metaphor now & then myself) and the nudity wasn't really that shocking...but after seeing 'Blue Is The Warmest Colour' last year it's hard to imagine me being shocked by anything of this nature going forward .
Overall, it's not my favourite movie of the month (that's really only because quality bar has been set surprising high in January) but it definitely still deserves a solid 8/10 from me...

Re: The Wolf Of Wall Street
Outstanding film. Not so much a condemnation of the financial sector as it is one of the entire capitalist system, and by extension those who participate in it (us). Also one of the funniest films I've seen in a long time.
Watching Leo DiCaprio
crawling around on quaaludes made me laugh so hard I cried, it was like he was channeling Mr Bean!
Full analysis here. I loved writing about this - there's so much to say!

Re: The Wolf Of Wall Street
I adored this film,I laughed so hard and often as did the rest of the audience. Leo was his usual brilliant self and boy did he have a ball with the excesses of this film. I loved
Jonah Hill's neon teeth too.
My only issue was
how little Matt McC was in it. The chest thumping seen in the trailer was the funniest part.
Vile. Very vile. And for that reason very hard to enjoy (at least for me). Great direction and performances; I'll be rooting for Hill comes March (unless Leto makes me change my mind by then!)

In case anyone missed the end credits, the real Jordan Belfort made a brief one scene appearance as

Re: The Wolf Of Wall Street
Absolutely loved this film!! Great performances all round and definitely not for the weak stomached. Brief Matthew McConaughey was superb as the senior Broker. Didn't really notice the 3 hour run time. A solid 9/10 from me.RickyRaj wrote:Tickets booked to see this saturday and looking forward to seeing it.
