Stan & Ollie
I saw this last night courtesy of my friend's Sky account.
I was looking forward to the film having seen a trailer but had not made any research about the film.
What a mistake . . . the film was not as I expected. I expected it to be their coming together and moving in to their older age . . . however the film is primarily about their final years.
Acting wise, John C. Reilly as Oliver Hardy and Steve Coogan as Stan Laurel were good as the aging Laurel & Hardy. A number of their past problems were touched on in the film including why they were trying to resurrect their career.
The film was slow and in many ways sad. 2 people walked out of the screening.
I would find it difficult to recommend the film to friends . . . it was ok as a freebie but I wouldn't have liked to have pa*d for it.
Marks 5.5/10

Re: Stan & Ollie
Enjoyed this, v well acted, love both the leads especially J C Reilly who is a hugely underrated comedic actor. Not sure it warrants the 93% RT score, but was enjoyable. 3/5.

MI 7 & 8
The Many Saints of Newark

I really wanted to like this film but would much rather have watched one of their shorts. Should have been much funnier than it was. And I believe on this tour they were mobbed and still hugely popular.

I was really looking forward to seeing this film and saw it last week , and really enjoyed it . Great portraits by Steve Coogan and John. C Reilly . Very gentle film about the comedy duos final tour of Britain . It portrayed the tours gathering momentum , culminating in a sold out west end run . This followed by Laurel and Hardys’ Retirement . I have recommended it to friends . 7/10 .

I was in tears at the end. Really enjoyed it - very touching. I agree was slow in places but a good movie none the less. Learnt new things about the pair and enjoyed the old London scenes.

Re: Stan & Ollie
bit self indulgent and slow, but sad nonetheless. Was sat near the Sheridan Smith fan club who roared with laughter everytime she spoke which got grating.
Not really for me, more for fans. The two actors did great impersonations, more so Reilly who was basically a clone or Hardy.
2 stars. Sorry Ollie.

Re: Stan & Ollie
Not really the tribute to L&H that I imagine those involved intended... decent performances all round, although I am rarely convinced by Steve Coogan, but, as others have said, slow moving and failed to hold my attention leading to glances at my watch and wondering if I would still make the pub post-cinema. You'll be pleased to know I did.
