Can You Ever Forgive Me?

#1 Post by Beate » Thu Feb 07, 2019 10:23 am

Saw this yesterday with free cinema vouchers and loved it. I'm not normally a fan of Melissa McCarthy in any of her clowning about roles, but she is excellent here and thoroughly deserves her Oscar nomination. She plays the acerbic alcoholic Lesbian who finds a way of making money forging celebrity letters with such aplomb, it's a delight to watch. There were several laugh out loud moments, and a gentle pisstake of the world of collectors' memorabilia.

8/10

Saw this at the Premiere at the London Film Festival 2018, through SFF.

An interesting and gripping true story of a down on her luck author, forced to fake letters from famous people to make ends meet. Fabulously told and acted by Melissa McCarthy and Richard E. Grant. A delight to watch, great rapport between them, and even with the cat! Hilarious and sad all at the same time. 9/10
