Shocking, offensive – just the way you like it?
In recent memory, no film has received more buzz at the Cannes Film Festival than this, Lars von Trier’s latest provocapiece. And with good reason… it’s not the film’s strengths or weaknesses that have stirred debate, but its excessively gruesome, horrifying content. It’s not like Eli Roth’s Hostel, for example. It’s even worse. Take the trailer above’s last shot as warning.
But its just down to taste really. If you like gore flicks, maybe you’d appreciate this film. And after all, any film that can provoke strong emotion has at least some merit. But whether or not seeing things like female circumcision make it worth it is down to you. Meantime, here’s two reviews with different perspectives if you haven’t made your mind up yet:
