Re: Pokémon Detective Pikachu

Really loved it. Good mystery adventure storyline with twists. Detective Pikachu voiced by Ryan Reynolds is adorable, funny and sad. When his former partner mysteriously goes missing, Pikachu helps his son track him down. The live action animation was really well done. A very fun, endearing film wit...

Re: Rocketman

Did not know much of Elton, but always enjoyed his songs. Such a sad family life. A shy boy, but flamboyant on stage. Good mix of fantasy and greatest hits. Taron Egerton did well in the role. Jamie Bell so good as Bernie Taupin too. Such a great partnership that continues. A well rounded film. 8/10

Re: Godzilla King of the Monsters

I liked it. It's mindless, it's epic and it's silly. I did find it quite a mess, but go with the flow, and you have an enjoyable big summer blockbuster, with impressive monsters fighting, if that is your thing. Long live the King! My friend's 11 year old kid enjoyed it and my OH, normally very criti...

Re: Booksmart

Coming of age high school comedy.

The night before their graduation they realised they had not been to any parties or had any fun, and needed to make up for it, that they can be smart and fun, and what follows is funny, and quite raunchy! It is unlikely, but just go with the flow! 7/10

Re: Tolkien

Biopic of Tolkien's early life from being an orphan, to a scholar, to the time he spent in the Somme trenches in World War I, to being an author. About love, friendship, loss, the horrors of war, all of which provided inspirations for his books. Interesting, but felt the magic is missing. 7/10

Saw a late screening of this at the BFI with Q&A with the director, and producer and cast. A surprisingly entertaining film, totally unexpected, and much better than I thought. An excellent coming of age drama, about friendship in a particular period in 1990's Scotland. Two Scottish lads raving agai...

Really loved this live action re-make. The leads are brilliant, and Will Smith makes a great genie. Loved everything, the costumes, the humour, the music and the special effects, they are all amazing. A must see, again and again! Saw it twice already, before embargoed was lifted! Second time on IMAX...

Re: Long Shot

Brilliant and funny, political rom-com with two likeable leads, Charlize Theron and Seth Rogen, directed by Jonathan Levine (50/50 and Snatched). A role reversal, with Charlize as the powerful, high flying, Secretary of State, and Seth Rogen as the broke, out of work underdog, who she used to babysi...
