Re: The Tribe

It was set in a deaf school, and the girls were being sex trafficked to a brothel in Italy by their teachers.

I thought the film was excellent though obviously not for everyone.

Re: American Sniper

Goddamn what a piece of crap. It's a flag-waving feature-length military recruitment ad that deifies a literal mass murderer.

Stand and salute? I'd rather spit.

Re: Birdman

I thought Birdman was powerfully excellent. Loved the single-take style and the swooping adventurous camera.

So pleased I plumped for this over Faces of Live.

Tinkerbell and the Legend of the Neverbeast

Well that was a fun morning. An hour spent in a cinema full of excited children waiting for the film and then they announce that they can't play it. Lot of angry parents and sad kids wanting their money back for popcorn, and people that'd wasted a day travelling down from all over. They said to emai...

Re: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

I thought it sucked. A load of clanging CG rubbish that completely swallows up the human element. Why does one character have a good/bad switch? What happens to that stone everyone's after? Do they expect us to care about this wooden romance? And the endless sequences of faceless helmeted man whacki...

Re: Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad

Well I thought this stunk up the place. Obnoxious child actors, Steve Carell seriously slumming it and CGI animals. Zero effort moviemaking.

Re: The Book of Life

I thought it was pretty brill - I'm down with any children's film that opens to a Le Tigre song and features a matador singing Radiohead. Could have gotten to the land of the dead a bit faster, but the production design meant it was always good to look at. I also dug the anti-bullfighting message. A...

Re: The Imitation Game

I thought it was pretty good. Cumberbatch was brill - as was Knightley (whose casting as a genius mathematician I was a little sceptical of). But it felt way too Oscar-baity for me, like all the rough edges had been sanded away. Dialogue like "sometimes it is the people who no-one imagines anything ...

Re: 20,000 Days On Earth

This film is outstanding. I guess if you hate Nick Cave as much as stuartboy you won't get much out of it, but even so I'd at least think you'd recognise it as a smart, well produced bit of cinema.
