Re: The Shape of Water
I really enjoyed this film, but it's definitely not for everyone. Sally Hawkins gave a great performance, and the rest of the cast were strong too. I love the score by Alexandre Desplat, and would definitely be happy if it won Best Score at the Oscars next week. The cinematography was beautiful, and...

Re: Dunkirk
Incredible movie. Beautiful cinematography, and what a score from Hans Zimmer! His music elevates the film to a whole new level of suspense. It was so loud during the screening I was at, but it really added to the overall mood and tension. The sound design was great, I did actually feel like I was t...

Re: Kong: Skull Island
I thought this was just okay. Nothing special or very memorable about it. I did really like John C. Reilly's character though, he was the stand out of the film.

Re: Hidden Figures
Very nice film, with good performances across the board. Surprised Taraji P. Henson hasn't been getting more awards love, especially for that amazing monologue she delivers in the middle section. I liked the inclusion of Pharrell Williams' music, I thought his songs worked nicely for certain scenes,...

Re: Fences
This was a long film. Great performances from the whole cast, but it definitely felt more suited to the stage than as a film.

Re: Moonlight
I thought it was a very moving film. Haven't seen a film like it before. The actors all did a great job, especially the six different actors who played Chiron and Kevin. Naomie Harris was excellent as Chiron's mother, this is a very difference performance for her, and it's nice to see her getting a ...

Re: Hacksaw Ridge
Thought this was excellent. Mel Gibson may be a bit of a prat, but there's no denying he's a very good director. I found the storyline very engaging, a lot more moving than I expected it to be, and a great central performance from Andrew Garfield. In fact all of the cast did a great job. Nice to see...

Re: Lion
Saw this last night at the Times+ preview screening. Thought it was pretty enjoyable overall, although found the first half with the young Saroo much more engaging. The second half didn't flow as well, and the score was a bit overbearing at times.

Re: Rogue One
Enjoyable movie. Liked all of the new characters, and a bold decision to
Thought the CGI for Torkin and Leia was impressive, and didn't find it very distracting. Amazing what CGI can do these days.

Re: Manchester by the Sea
I enjoyed this film. It was rather slow to unfold, but I was engaged with the storyline and characters throughout. Nice use of music, and beautiful cinematography as well. Strong performances from both Casey Affleck and Michelle Williams, can see why both have been tipped to do well at the upcoming ...
