The Lobster meets Mother!
Very strange, very disturbing - but worth the effort to stay with it.

Re: Wind River
One of the best films of the year.
Imagine swapping the Hell or High Water's burning heat for the bleak frozen landscapes of the North.
It also shares that film's feel of a 50s Western - a decent man just trying to do the right thing.

Re: Atomic Blonde
A multi-layered flashback to the 80s - not just in the setting and the (great) music, but also in the style of the film itself. All flash and no substance, just like all those 80s movies & music videos. Makes a lot more sense when you realise it's based on a comic/graphic novel. Great fun, but not f...

Re: Detroit
There needs to be a new category of film that isn't "Horror" - but is "Tension" or "Dread". At times this is almost unwatchable - in the good sense - so unbearable is slow ratcheting up of real personal fear, you almost want to watch between your fingers. The performances all round are incredible. D...

Ripper Street the movie - the end is Nighy.
Excellent film. Great performances all round. Victorian feel really well captured.
Loved the musings on illusion/theatre - just a shame the twist was telegraphed from quite so early on.

Re: The Hitman's Bodyguard
Midnight Run with a high body count (it wishes) Oh dear - what a massive disappointment. There's nothing wrong with the premise - let's have a wise-crackin' reluctant chalk & cheese pair forced together to beat the baddies - but the result is a massive fail. There's little chemistry between the lead...

Re: Stephen King's 'It' (2017)
Goonies on Elm Street. Much better than we'd hoped/feared it would be. So many King adaptations fail, but this has been made with loving care and attention. It makes perfect sense to move the story forward from the source's time-frames, so Part 2 will now be in the present day. It looks incredible, ...

Re: The Red Turtle
What a beautiful film. Not just visually, but emotionally too.
Simply cannot understand why this does not appear to be getting any multiplex showings at all, especially considering some of the utter rubbish that is clogging up the screens locally at the moment.

Re: Sleepless
Unfortunately, it breaches the threshhold of implausibilty too much, too often. When you find yourself thinking, "But what?", "But how?", or just plain "NO!" - then it's lost. It felt like something Channel 5 would have put out on a Friday evening. However, I would be interested to see the French or...
