Re: Personal History of David Copperfield

I wasn't expecting to enjoy this so much but it was absolutely excellent, very fast paced and enjoyable throughout. For anyone thinking that Dickens isn't for them, forget that as this version requires no literary or high-brow knowledge, just sit back and enjoy the film. Great performances by all th...

Re: Wild Rose

Good film, largely avoiding the usual cliches of boy/girl done good, and to my ears a great soundtrack. Very strong performance by Jessie Buckley and both Julie Walters and Sophie Okonedo are as sound as you would expect. Not sure the film quite lives up to 'three chords and the truth' but well wort...

Re: Dumbo (2019)

How to take a great original film, change the focus of the story, tinker with the help of modern animation techniques and produce an almost unwatchable mish-mash of a movie. Not good and not recommended!

Re: The Keeper

Good film, I thought... highlights a footballing era a million miles away from today's game too! How many of the recently acquired worldwide Manchester City fans know this story and the name?

One of the better sports-based movies of recent times...

Re: Other sites

Living in Northampton, I joined the local Filmhouse and my membership gives me three free tickets a year, p*ying for the membership with change!. Other local cinemas, particularly independents, may do something similar. They have also introduced a new scheme for 16-25 years where tickets are reduced...

Re: Instant Family

Nice film to take the kids - or grand-kids! - to but those of us of a certain age have seen this formula, complete with happy ending, played out many times before. Good fun though and some nice performances, especially the middle teen and Rose Bryne as the mum. Worth a watch!

Re: Mary, Queen of Scots

This was a film which belonged to Saoirse Ronan and she was convincing as an impulsive, if naive, Mary. I was underwhelmed by Margot Robbie as Elizabeth, to be honest, but I see that she has picked up a number of awards nominations so I must be wrong. David Tennant clearly enjoyed himself as John Kn...

Re: Stan & Ollie

Not really the tribute to L&H that I imagine those involved intended... decent performances all round, although I am rarely convinced by Steve Coogan, but, as others have said, slow moving and failed to hold my attention leading to glances at my watch and wondering if I would still make the pub post-...
