Borg Vs McEnroe

Pleasantly surprised by Borg Vs McEnroe (or Borg McEnroe) which I saw tonight, fittingly, at the Odeon Wimbledon. A solid sports movie that wisely keeps the tennis action limited until the famous 1980 Wimbledon final at the end. Given the largely Scandinavian creative crew behind the film, it's perh...

Mother!

Justly shrouded in secrecy, Darren Aronofsky's Mother! is a film that needs to be seen to be believed. If you think you got the measure of what the film is from the trailer, think again. That only scratches the surface of a film that is much much more than the Rosemary's Baby clone it seemed to be. ...

Re: Stephen King's 'It' (2017)

Going against the odds perhaps, considering the mixed results of previous Stephen King adaptations, but the new version of IT, or half of it at least, is surprisingly very good. Updating the book's childhood summer section from the 50s to the currently ever so popular 80s milieu of arcade machines, ...

Logan Lucky

At the Vue West End last night for the UK premiere of Logan Lucky complete with an introduction from Steven Soderbergh, Channing Tatum and Adam Driver. Plus a goodie bag which included, amongst other things, a pack of Haribo bears (rather fitting considering the use of gummy bears as an explosive in...

Re: Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

A pretty enjoyable sci-fi adventure that takes an 'everything and the kitchen sink' approach to its story and special effects, stuffing the film with plenty of creatures, gadgets and MacGuffins whilst moving along at a frantic enough pace to take your attention away from any possible plot holes. It ...

A Ghost Story

David Lowery's bold and unique haunting drama A Ghost Story was the closing film at Sundance London back in June and goes on general release in the UK on the 11th August. Reuniting with Ain't Them Bodies Saints' stars Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara for something radically different from both that and...

Re: Dunkirk

Did anyone else notice that the three chapters were called "Mole", "Sea", and "Air", rather than "Land", "Sea" and "Air". Yes it's what Kenneth Branagh was standing on for the duration of the film. The wikipedia page for 'mole' even mentions the Dunkirk evacuation. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/M...

Land of Mine

YvsKIBSPfWw Land of Mine is a powerful and moving Oscar-nominated film from writer/director Martin Zandvliet about an aspect of the Second World War that you don't see on screen that often. What happens when the war ends and things need to be cleaned up? In this case, a group of teenage German POW'...

Girls Trip

Considering it wasn't even on my radar a couple of days ago until a few very positive reviews then piqued my interest, I enjoyed Girls Trip quite a lot. The story of four former college friends who call themselves the Flossy Posse getting back together after five years to visit New Orleans for the E...
