Re: A Dog's Purpose

It;s not a great film, but if you have ever had a dog, you will still need a couple of hankies with you.

Re: The Handmaiden

One of the most beautiful-looking films you'll see this year, this makes a very interesting companion piece to last month's Age of Shadows.

Both set on 30's occupied Korea, both involve double- or even triple-crossing intrigues and both are wonderfully shot and set.

Highly recommended.

Re: Lady Macbeth

Can only echo the other posters here. This is superb film. Dark, intense and certainly not for the faint of heart, although there are some genuinely funny moments. Very tempted to see again, given that the screen curtains were not pulled back far enough and several feet of the film on either were lo...

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy 2

Miles more enjoyable than most of the last year or so's superhero blockbusters. More laughs than most so-called comedies.

Sequels always struggle to match the first films in a series, but this gives it a pretty good shot.

Definitely worth a trip to the big screen.

Re: The Promise

Quite an old-fashioned film. Does not entirely succeed at the balancing act of romance and genocide, but it is beautifully shot and well-played.

Not without flaws, but worth seeing as an antidote to a lot of the by-numbers horrors and unfunny comedies that clog up the screens these days.

Re: Free Fire

John Denver will never be the same again!

It's not perfect, but there are more hits than misses in the script (if not in the actual gunfire).

Copley especially takes his role with great relish.

Re: Life

Even in a Sci-Fi B-movie you need a certain internal consistency with the plot progression. We were actually enjoying this movie very much until, unfortunately, there was a plot twist too extreme that was just a "Hey! Wait! What? No! Forget it!" moment. Shame really. Up to that point, although entir...

90% loved it - but Luke Evans was just really annoying.
