Re: Viceroys House

Very well made historical drama. Some people might the romance plot a little shoe-horned in, but it does add a humanising element to the drier politics.

Re: John Wick 2

Hadn't seen the first one, so lacked some of the backstory, but as big dumb cinematic shoot-em-ups go, it was a very enjoyable one. Ian MacShane clearly enjoyed making it.

Re: The Founder

Great to see Keaton on screen even if it is a surprisingly niche piece of 20th century history.

It is very well handled, when it could have become rather dry and dull.

Re: LOGAN

A meditation on old-age and mortality that just happens to be a "superhero" film (- oh, and a road movie too). Ran, Last Orders, The Unforgiven, to name but a few, all came to mind as we watched. The performances of all three leads are superb - especially Dafne Keen, considering her inexperience. Wo...

Worth seeing for Pauline Collins' performance. Sweet and poignant.

Re: Hidden Figures

In many this is quite an old-fashioned film - but in a good way :-) What a pleasant surprise to see a good story, told well, with excellent performances all round. There are laughs and tears (definitely a several hankie film) Would be more than happy to go back and see this again. The only odd thing...

Re: Fences

Yes, it is a film of a play, but it is a great play. Unfortunately, it is not a great film, but it is very well done. There is very little scope in the story to widen out the settings very much - there's a handful of brief new places but, otherwise, it is all back at the house - although I suppose t...

Re: Moonlight

Really want to see this, but the local cineplex is only showing this film once a day at almost ten o'clock in the evening. We would havr to leave before the film finished to make sure we got the bus home. They did much the same thing with Denial and with Loving last month - except for these there wa...

Re: Lion

What an incredible story.

This is a real three-hankie film. Beautifully told.

Make sure you stay for the end credits.

Re: La La Land

Given other people's comments this is clearly going to be another "marmite" film. Absolutely loved this film, from the opening shots all the way through to the end credits. It looks amazing, the use of the soundtrack is wonderful, the leads work together perfectly. Wanted to just stay in the cinema ...
