Re: Keeping up with the Joneses

Not great - but still far preferable to Inferno.

...and John Hamm displays surprising comedy chops.

Re: The Light Between Oceans

Would like to see this, but our local Odeon has chosen to put on screening times which are either too early to get to in time from work or so late that we would not get home until midnight. Can only hope they keep it on another week without switching to the very unhelpful "weekday matinees only" pat...

Re: Doctor Strange

Inception meets Escher in 1967.

Needs to be seen on the biggest possible screen to fully appreciate the visual effects.

Plus great use of Interstellar Overdrive.

Re: Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread

Is anyone else getting error messages when trying to use the SFF Blues Festival links that went up recently in the "Free Theatre/Concert/Misc - codes only, NO CHAT nor COMPS" section?

For example, I keep getting "This code was for use by invited guest list only" for the Bad Company one.

Re: Trolls

We really enjoyed this.

It has deliberately bonkers colour palette which is a joy to the eye.

Whilst it may be aimed at the younger end of the market, there is plenty for grown-ups to enjoy too.

The vocal performances are excellently done - Justin Timberlake is surprisingly funny.

A surprisingly good B movie - for a B movie.

Re: The Magnificent Seven (2016)

It's sort of OK, but it's too slow in some places and then really rushes in others, which is all a bit frustrating.

Still probably a lot better than it might have been considering just how bad a lot of recent remakes have been.

Re: The Girl on the Train

Hadn't read the book so no knowledge of the plot.

Excellent little thriller - nice to see Allison Janney get a serious role for a change.

Re: Blood Father

We weren't going to bother with this presuming it to be a sub-Taken waste of space, but then we saw it was directed by the guy who did Mesrine, so thought we'd give it a try. So glad we did. This is Mel's best film in a very long time. It's like one of those Robert Mitchum b-movies from the 50s. Ver...

Re: Storks

It may not be up there with the very best animations of recent years, but it is still better than most.

Lots of good gags - and a few bad ones - but very well made.
