Re: Hell or High Water

Excellent film.

Has the same elegaic quality as The Last Picture Show with a touch of 70s films such as Thunderbolt and Lightfoot.

The cast are uniformly excellent - even down to the bit parts.

Well worth seeing.

Re: Hunt For The Wilderpeople

What a great little film!

Knew nothing about this at all in advance.

Beautiful - funny - moving - truthful - so many qualities absent from the majority of production line films that flood the cinemas.

If you see one film this weekend, make it this one.
Up meets Thelma & Louise.

Re: Anthropoid

Literally spoiled for me by Radio 4's Front Row, which followed the phrase "we don't want to give away too much", by in fact giving away everything, which meant that much of the potential tension from having no idea what was going to happen was wholly denied us.

Re: Cafe Society

Just got back in from seeing it at the local Odeon. Re: the finish - We had a couple of theories, but don't want to risk saying anything that might be considered a spoiler this early in the opening week. The script is a little clunky in places but one thing that absolutely did stand out was the ligh...

ps - Is there any particular reason for Bradley Cooper's apparent decision to play his role as Bono?

Re: War Dogs

So there's a lot of Goodfellas, mixed in with Three Kings, Jarhead, Wolf of Wall St etc. I was vaguely aware of the story, but not enough to be sure about the ending. "Dramedy" is always a difficult one to pull off - not enough laughs for some people, too flippant for others, but it is well done and...

Re: Bad Moms

It's not going to win any awards, but it easily passes the six laughs test.

Imagine if Mean Girls were now grown-ups.

Kristen Bell and especially Kathryn Hahn get the biggest laughs.

Re: David Brent: Life on the Road

In some ways, beneath all the crass gags, this is one of the saddest films I have ever seen. Here you have a man prematurely in his twilight years, living a sad, lonely existence with no love and no real friends. So desperate for these things that he tries far too hard and drives them further away. ...

"Five Go Mad In Dorset" meets "The 39 Steps".

A real parson's egg. Really enjoyed some parts, yet at times it was like the local am dram.

Re: Pete's Dragon

This is a far better film than it has any right to be. It is really quite dark in places, surprisingly so, which means parents of younger kids might want to check the BBFC page on the film before making a family outing. The additional "indie" sensibility works really well and some very good performa...
