Re: Macbeth - at the cinema

Was in two minds whether or not to see this. OH hates Shakespeare. By the sound of it, she was right.

Re: Latecomers to screenings and other cinema nuisances

People who bring children to films that they must know they won’t enjoy. People who bring in smelly food. People who stand and take ages getting their belongings together whilst the credits and outtakes are rolling behind them and are impervious to criticisms such as ‘sit down pillocks’. People, rea...

Re: Ghost Stories

Enjoyable but perhaps it’s just me or are all these ‘scary’ films tame because we the viewers are now so expert at working out when the jumps are coming and from where. Sadly, shocks are so difficult to come by in the modern film era. The most unsettling things I’ve seen recently were in BGT auditio...

Re: I Feel Pretty

Better than I was expecting. Laughed out loud several times. Not sure why there was any controversy over this film. For me, message was confidence is vitally important in life.

Re: Bromley Boys

Pleasant enough film, reasonably well acted. But suffered from British Comedy disease of underachieving on a restricted budget. Could have been so much better with a bit of effort and forethought. Re: Book Club

Disappointed with this. Hoped it would not simply be a vehicle for older actors...but it was. Very cliched and sickly saccharine, particularly the closing scenes. I was amazed it was rated a 12a film. Really? 50 Shades of Grey? Erectile disfunction? Viagra overdose causing painful and highly visible...

Looking forward to this one. Read the book a while back and am interested to see how they film the pivotal scene without controversy.

Re: I, Tonya

I was really impressed by this film. The approach taken of never quite being sure what was true and what was phoney, with talking to the camera at several moments with asides such as “this never happened “ was excellent. Performances uniformly top-notch. And then the end sequences showing just how t...

Re: Lady Bird

Not quite the tour de force I was expecting considering the Oscar buzz. In fact, rather predictable. Well acted by all and entertaining but when the credits roll you think, that’s just another quirky coming of age film I can tick off. 7/10
