Odeon Screen Unseen

#1 Post by MFDOOMTHEFIRST » Mon Jan 23, 2017 2:43 pm

For those of you who don't know, every so often (although a lot more recently) Odeon do a preview screening of a movie, but don't reveal the movie in advance, instead releasing clues

Its only £5 and its really good fun to go into a cinema and see a movie they deem to be a five star future classic before everyone else

Previous films have been The Florida Project, Brigsby Bear and Three Billboards, with Get Out and The Ritual for the Horror division "Scream Unseen"

I thought it would be fun to have a discussion page for it, specifically to see if we can use our collective cinematic knowledge to their sometimes difficult clues

I'll edit this with the new clues every time a new film is announced

15th January Screen Unseen Screening
1. "Like VP without the accent"
2. "A slight reduplication"
3. "Two military men and a priest"
4. "The Lion, the Serpent and the Eagle's first ribbon"

Favourite:
Spoiler
Show
No idea based on the clues, Lady Bird and Shape of Water fit the style of movie that they usually show with a timely release date, Last Flag Flying perhaps fits the clues best but seems a strange choice, downsizing potentially an option
What are your thoughts?

What did it end up being then? Moonlight.

It's been a while since I have been to a screen unseen as they tend to clash with other things for me.

Yeah it was Moonlight, it was fantastic!

They do say they show films "they deem to be a five star future classic", so you'd needn't worry about it being any old rubbish, some films I haven't enjoyed but that was more me than them being fundamentally rubbish

Here's a list of films they've shown if you're interested: https://letterboxd.com/mattevenson/list ... en-unseen/

A friend of mine is a movie reviewer and he goes to ALL the previews and premieres.

He does seem to give everything a good review though

Interesting, do the unseen showings appear in listings or is there a special webpage for this?

If you follow odeon on facebook or twitter, people are usually fairly spot on at guessing the film based on the clues released. Only Hidden Figures was a genuine surprise and that was due to it showing around 8/9 weeks before due release date (the films are generally released within a month of the screening)

I've been going to SU now for a while and seen some great films. They are all meant to be critically acclaimed so are of a strong standard.

There is a list of all previous showings here - https://letterboxd.com/mattevenson/list ... een-unseen ..My first was Midnight Special o/

I had wondered about the quality of the films it might involve but seeing the posts on here it sounds like a great idea

No clues as yet but the next Scream Unseen is on Mon 6th March. This is different to Screen Unseen as it will be a horror film.

The last one was Split and I really enjoyed so looking forward to seeing what this might be..!

From facebook:

Good news, ghouls!

ODEON Scream Unseen's mystery movie is back on the 6th of March for a scarily cheap £5! Learn all about it here: http://mobi.odeon.co.uk/screamunseen
