The composer Johnnie Dankworth died yesterday. His was a name I knew, but it was only when listeing to a news report that I realised tha he wrote (and usually performed) the scores and theme music for "Darling" (which I watched only a few weeks ago - with Julie Christie - very 1960s), "A taste of Honey", "Modesty Blaise", "10 Rillington Place" and the theme of television's "The Avengers" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0YOlU3S ... re=relatedand "Tomorrows World" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERaF-h8U ... PL&index=1. (the latter clips for the oldies on FMUK!)

He was knighted in 2006. He was married to the singer (Dame) Cleo Laine. They also did a lot for musical education.

Lionel Jeffries

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8524335.stm

He built a successful career in British films mainly in comic character roles and as he was prematurely bald he often played characters older than himself. For example, he played the role of father to Caractacus Potts (played by Dick Van Dyke) in the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968), although Jeffries was actually six months younger than Van Dyke. His acting career reached a peak in the 1960s with leading roles in other films like Two-Way Stretch (1960), The Trials of Oscar Wilde (1960), First Men in the Moon (1964) and Camelot (1967).

In the 1970s Jeffries turned to writing and directing children's films, including the celebrated 1970 version of The Railway Children and The Amazing Mr Blunden.

British actor Christopher Cazenove has died after a "valiant battle" with septicaemia, his family has said.

The actor, who played Ben Carrington in 1980s US soap opera Dynasty, was 66.

This comes just one week after the death of John Forsythe, another Dynasty stalwart.
