Oh wow.

Fortunately for me I never put my phone number in facebook in the 1st place.

Apparently the phonebook has been around for a while...never noticed it myself though.

I cannot get this to open - I am not sure what I am doing wrong. All I get is the little symbol that shows that the page is loading, but nothing happens.

I cannot begin to understand why anyone would offer up their digits on Facebook in the first place.
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

I think before you could make them visible to friends only but when the recent privacy changes were implemented the previous privacy settings were wiped out and phone numbers became visible to everyone. Luckily I'd deleted my phone number quite a while ago anyway.

we had this situation at uni a little while ago when students facebooks were being trawled for details.

i was shaking my head in disbelief at the many students who were running round like headless chickens worried that their phone numbers and personal details being traced for identity theft. Who would be stupid enough to put all that info about themselves on the internet, in a public access open option, where it can be trawled and kept forever by anyone? Small wonder that A levels need to be dumbed down these days to cater for these dudes.

Well, I understand the idea there, but surely one's real, actual friends would have your number anyway, and if they don't could just email or message you for it.

It's just dumb.

True. Pretty much the reason I took it off straight away. Just as dumb is when people create a group saying they've lost their phone and could people post their numbers on the group wall. And people do. Actually sharing their number with the rest of facebook voluntarily.

People would be amazed at what info is available about them by some judicious searching on the web!
