Excellent news about sun and flowers and yes I am sure that others are lots worse off and I am just feeling sorry for myself. Apologies.

At the moment we are fighting another basement development in our neighbourhood. Someone wants to dig a double basement in the garden with car garage for 6 cars, car lift, swimming pool, sauna, pool bar etc. The mind boggles as to where in the world people get such ideas when they live in the middle of London. We're talking Hackney not Hollywood. This mega-basement development is right next to the listed church but they don't give a toss if there is damage, upheaval -- they only care that they get their way -- no sense of community of caring for anyone else. Greed, sheer greed.

And don't get me started on the London mayoral election.

OMG are they crazy??? Surely that's not good for the foundations of the house and, am I being dumb, but aren't there things like utility pipes under the house?

The plan is for the double basement in her garden which is on the side of her house -- virtually all of the garden and not under the house. The owner of the house is a property developer and thrives on selling on multi million pound houses at massive profits but she has really put the cat amongst the pigeons with this one and loads of people are outraged. Her house was originally the vicarage but sold many years ago. We think there may be a covenant that says there could be no development in the garden as it would affect the foundations of the church and that may stop it but who knows. Seems anything goes in London these days. Too much money and too little sense. I don't belong here.

That's lovely to hear! Unfortunately, the air cond is broken this week and we are sat in stuffy offices so we can hardly breathe and there is no window to open to get any air. This is the least of my problems though.

I feel for you too, ejwrank. People have more money then sense! I hope there is some environmental or conservation order so they cannot develop in this way. We are fighting in our area against the HS2 which will likely disrupt our area for 10 years!
