Well that's a good deed done today. A confused very old man with a walking stick was knocking on my door when I came home. It turns out he thought he lived there instead of 10 doors down. I take him home only to find he has lost his keys.

He said his carer comes at 8am and he was going to sit on doorstep and wait! Luckily, I know his neighbour two doors down who heard his plight took him in while I called the council to send a locksmith. I didn't want to leave him in case he wandered off again.

I was walking home when I saw him on my doorstep! From afar I was thinking, oh no, not again, Jehovah's Witnesses! They are really hot round my way, knocking on your door every week, and hanging around our stations!

Well done, PXC. But then, you know what dementia looks like.

He was totally confused and lost, the houses are very similar on our street. I would have done what anyone would have done, made sure he was safe! But I know what you mean, it could have been my mum or even your OH! Thanks!

I am so, so sorry to hear of the untimely passing of your mum recently, mandmc10. My heart goes out to you and I am thinking of you at this very hard time. My heartfelt condolences to you and your family.

Well done PxC, at least hes got a neighbour who gives a damn, goes out her way to do something about it.

My nextdoor didn't notice her neighbour was dead until she was rotting away after several weeks. Pathetic. This is the same neighbour who was in when our house got broken into, heard all the smashing in of windows and breaking of doors, and did ....NOTHING. Utterly useless worthless Surrey-type person.

OMG! We have very good neighbours in our street. Almost like a neighbourhood watch. All look out for each other!

My company just issued this. Good advice and useful to note.

The aim is not be alarmist. The chances of being caught up in an incident remains very small.

Nonetheless, the police have asked that the video on what to do in the event of a terrorist incident via the following link is shared.

http://www.npcc.police.uk/NPCCBusinessA ... ySafe.aspx

(Apparently a British national overseas who saw this advice and got caught up in an incident followed the advice and so possibly saved her life).

Off to the cinema to avoid the folk coming to my door for Halloween. There was a time I enjoyed the visitors but not now so left the house by 4.45pm for a second viewing of Jack Reacher. Sorry if I'm being a party pooper tonight! :p Anyone else doing the same?
Preferred cinemas: Best: Glasgow Quay, Glasgow Braehead, Glasgow Renfield Street, Glasgow Fort & Paisley

I've got sweeties by the door ready for them. However, I only open the door before 9pm. Any time later then tough titty. Last year, the last kid who came before 9pm did really well!

Last year some kids came with their parents after 10.30pm. We'd gone to sleep. Our intercom is really loud, so they woke us up and I could hear the father say 'bang the door with the knocker' and the kid did too. Boy did I want to give that father a treat, in the form of a bucket of cold water out of the window.

I then heard the dad say 'go downstairs' - to my neighbour who lives in the basement. I thought 'Good luck with that'. He doesn't always open the door during the day.

Either the other neighbours in my street were not answering or out, because I could hear the dad shouting 'bang on the door'/'ring the doorbell' down the street.

Seriously, you expect us to answer after we'd gone to bed that late?

I used to really enjoy Halloween (being an American how could I not love Halloween) and we carved pumpkins etc and I took my small kids out to neighbours who were amenable. But many years back I got really fed up with kids screaming at me for more chocolates (we once had a group of about 15 kids turn up and I gave them a pile of choc bars and told them to share them out. I was told "we don't do sharing" which pretty much clinched it for me. Like Sunny Saver we also get kids out far too late and tonight we had a young child come banging on the door at 9.45pm. So I agree with McG-- I turn off the lights and don't answer. Shame really as I used to love Halloween.
