I did notice something odd at the top of the pop up window, the smilie code is appearing above the title box when it doesn't work right. NB. its doing it again. however, I can bring the window back to the front, copy the code from the top of the window and paste it in my message. Now that I know that happens I can work around the problem, but its still a problem.

To clarify a bit when the smilie code fails to be inserted in the message body, its inserted in the top of the pop up window instead.

I have more than one pc so i'm now logged in on a different pc which uses IE7 and I just experienced the same smiiie problem on the pop up. There is something amiss with the coding for the pop up because i'm even using a different broadband connection.

Not quite sure what Steve means by this but I just posted in the Happy Birthday thread and could not get the more smilies to work - nothing happened when I clicked on them.

Try this

If you click View More Smilies and do not wait for the smilies screen to display fully, then the smiley goes into the smilies popup instead of the post. If you click on View More Smilies and wait for it to develop fully (on my computer it develops fully, then the popup gives a noticeable flicker, and after the flicker I know it's done) and then click the smiley, it goes into the post.

OK it seems to work intermittently and I do always wait for the smilies to populate. Previously the "flicker" actually sent the popup behind the main window (but not on pcbob's site), and I had to bring it forwards again. There is no flicker here which may be the problem and could mean that the popup isn't downloading fully or possibly not linking to the edit window at the end of the download. I waited a full minute just now after the popup fully populated and it still fails to insert the code, it always ends up at the top of the popup window which then goes behind the main window.

Here's an interesting oddity, if I compose my message in the quick reply and then click on the preview button to access the smilies "view more smilies" works properly.

And then if I do it normally and click preview the VMS works properly again.
I just tried it with these messages. The trick to have it working is to preview the message and then continue with it. That is the only way I can guarantee the smilies pop up works properly.

Although I don't like Firefox, using it has been the only way to open the "View more smilies" link. I wish I knew why this happens, I used to open them so easily before
