Re: Not Receiving Email Alerts
Well I've had a reply.
That would be a job for AYBG but I don't see how it would work.Unread postby KevC » Wed Sep 23, 2015 9:52 am
That certainly seems like a logical conclusion.steve9872 wrote:Now i'm certain that its the number of subscribers that's causing the problem. The system simply doesn't have enough time to complete the subscribed list and mark the accounts as needing to visit the topic. The system times out before completing the list and doesn't get around to marking anyone's account to visit the topic so repeat alerts are common as well as some not getting any, ever.
The best people to ask would be the hosts. See if indeed the number of emails going out is bogging down the mail server and then not happening.
As for a solution, you might need to ask the hosts if they can set up a batch queue of some sort.

Re: Not Receiving Email Alerts
That would be like the total film newsletter letter going out in batches, no use to anyone not it the first batch.
The only temp measure I can think of at the moment is to create a special thread for those of us not getting alerts to subscribe to and whenever someone posts in ff if someone could kindly post to this new thread to give us an alert for the alert we otherwise won't receive.
Other than that it's back to the membership fee or more stringent culling option.

Re: Not Receiving Email Alerts
I agree with whats been said - i would be happy to p*y a small membership fee which may get rid of some of the hangers on.elski wrote:That would be like the total film newsletter letter going out in batches, no use to anyone not it the first batch.

Re: Not Receiving Email Alerts
Yes, a small membership fee sounds like a good idea.
Also my account seems to log out every day, even though I tick the box to stay logged in. It's only started doing this about a week ago.

That's possibly down to your web browser. Do you have it set to clear the cache/cookies daily?FBS wrote:Yes, a small membership fee sounds like a good idea.

I'm guessing I should do then?

Re: Not Receiving Email Alerts
I'm now not receiving the FF alerts. I received one earlier this morning but not later ones. Luckily I was browsing on the site when I spotted the first had been posted.

Re: Not Receiving Email Alerts
I'm not keen on the idea of a membership fee, but I might add a 10 post threshold before you can set email subscriptions.
By my count there's 847 users below that number, to 454 above.
How about a trial run to see if that sorts anything?
