Less mainstream free films recently?

#1 Post by drizzy5oh » Fri Oct 20, 2017 7:21 pm

Anyone else noticed recently there seem to be less and less mainstream free screenings? 90% of whats been offered this year has been genre or indie films, far less of the blockbusters and more popular/mainstream type films. Mainly talking about the SFF screenings, rather than the pa*d subscription ones.

I get that the main reason for free screenings is word of mouth, and that would definitely benefit indie/smaller films more, but still its disappointing that there are so few 'big' films offered these days.

I remember not long ago when there would be free screenings (non-subscription) for 'big' films like The Dark Knight Rises, Man of Steel, Gravity etc.

Think the most mainstream free film offered this year was probably Kong: Skull Island, but that was it really.

*sigh* I miss the golden days of 2010-2015.
