I haven't looked into the details, but my bank emailed me today to remind me I have travel insurance bundled with my account - I might be able to get a refund after all. This isn't the only trip I have planned.

Of course, if there's an excess, it might not be worth it.
Preferred cinemas:
Vue West End, Cineworld Haymarket, Odeon West End, Odeon Leicester Square, Empire Leicester Square, Cineworld O2, Cineworld Shaftesbury Avenue and Odeon Panton Street, followed by anywhere in central(ish) London.

Looks like Carol and I will still be going as private hotel won't allow us to cancel and with getting the train tickets so cheap any future booking would be a large hike in cost.
Unfortunately, as you'll have heard on the news, all bars, restaurants, spas, etc. will close tonight so there will be nowhere to eat or drink if your hotel does not provide food. I know you were thinking of still coming, Steve, but I would certainly recommend a rethink.
Preferred cinemas: Best: Glasgow Quay, Glasgow Braehead, Glasgow Renfield Street, Glasgow Fort & Paisley
Others I'd go to: Glasgow Showcase Baillieston

Films already booked for:

Hope to get tickets for: Every film if they come to my preferred cinemas

I'm in the same situation, nothing can be cancelled. I'm still not going as I don't like the idea of being both bored and hungry. Nowhere to go & nowhere to eat.

Should you happen to have a travel insurance via HSBC, this is their advice:

I had a look at the T&Cs on the updated Travelodge blog now as of today

https://www.travelodge.co.uk/blog/news/coronavirus/

So it looks like, if you go down the voucher route,
you can cancel again and get a new voucher, if you needed to.

5. You may cancel your new booking and you will be issued a new voucher if your second (or any further subsequent) cancellation meets the conditions stated in sections 1 – 5 above

However, the voucher is only valid until end of this year, so no good, if we decide to use the voucher when it's cheaper to travel again, and hotel rates are cheaper and similar (including the Spring discount which I got for my booking).

The alternative is to amend booking for similar time next year, hopefully to keep the same prices, but the bookings are only open until end of Feb 2021 at the moment.

I also have a travel insurance with my bank, which I need to check if I qualify for a refund.

Will your hotel let you amend your booking until later on this year or next year, for instance. I am thinking of ways how we can all mitigate our costs to not lose so much. I feel that if we want to try and keep close to our prices that we booked this year, we need to think of postponing until next year, if prices later on this year will still be quite high?

What do everyone else think?

I just want to apologise for not posting on the thread but I am frontline staff in the NHS and we have been told under no circumstances are we to discuss anything on social media about Coronavirus as it could be deemed as me giving advice hence (NHS England advice changes by the minute) so as the thread was getting a tad heated I couldn't add anything.

Good idea re next year as the Travelodge has to be booked by the end of the year not necessarily taken. The trains might be a different ball game but I will check it out.

Yes, Diane, please stay safe. Son David also works for NHS so we know the pressure health service workers are under.

Good wishes to you from all of us!

Take care Diane! The NHS are heroes!!

I am happy postponing til next year also.

My friends travelled from Edinburgh to Glasgow the other day as they had an overnight stay booked in a hotel, they got there to find out the hotel had closed. No word of warning, check your accommodation before you travel steve!

I'm still in the house, apart from when walking the dog! Thank god for Netflix & Spotify lol
