Problem with messages not marked as read.
This problem is rare and I have no idea how to reliably replicate it, but sometimes when I leave a topic it isn't marked as read. This has nothing to do with a new post appearing as I can go back into the topic and its the same last message. The only cure is to mark all messages as read, repeatedly opening the topic doesn't work.
Any ideas AYBG?
It happened again today in FF but it can be any topic and seems random. I don't see message deletion as the cause as that has been experienced and doesn't appear to effect this, although I haven't tried being logged in twice (different users), having the same topic open, then posting/deleting and see what happens when the other account leaves the topic. That's the only scenario that makes any kind of sense.

Re: Problem with messages not marked as read.
I have the same trouble and posted about this ages ago, asking for help/ideas, but no-one replied! And actually, Steve, if you of all people can't fix it, I wonder if it's even capable of being resolved!

Re: Problem with messages not marked as read.
Er, How do you mark a topic as read in the first place?
Re: Problem with messages not marked as read.
I think this should happen automatically once you've read them, and I have seen a tab saying "mark topics read" but don't know where it is. I found this problem arose only after I switched from IE to Google Chrome, which is odd, as the latter is far superior in most respects. But it may just be a coincidence.

Re: Problem with messages not marked as read.
You cannot mark a single topic as read, it has to be the whole page of threads. Its located on the right hand side, near the top, immediately above the column which lists the last post in the threads. It is never visible when reading messages, only when navigating.andrews wrote:Er, How do you mark a topic as read in the first place?

Re: Problem with messages not marked as read.
Yeah, I've seen the same problem a few times, but I have no idea how to sort it out. My original suspicion was that it's related to the cross-posting feature.
I too mark the topics read, so I suggest you all do the same once you've caught up with all the threads you want to on the given forum.

Re: Problem with messages not marked as read.
For me it only happens if Preston posts a new thread for a film and it's the only post in the thread, then I can't get it to mark as read.

Re: Problem with messages not marked as read.
It happened to me today in FF also and whilst it happens on other threads it seems to occur more on FF. I too mark topic read to ensure email alerts.steve9872 wrote:This problem is rare and I have no idea how to reliably replicate it, but sometimes when I leave a topic it isn't marked as read. Re: Problem with messages not marked as read.
I just had a thought, could it be because a newbies first post isn't visible to us until its been okayed, but might still register as unread, and only the mark as read function sorts it.

Maybe. I had to disapprove a few today, one in Free Films.
