Travel deals

http://www.southwesttrains.co.uk/SWTrai ... adness.htm

I think train fares are disgustingly expensive - a 37 min journey to Waterloo can cost me up to £35 in the week and I have to drive to the station in the next town to get that train :(

Anyway SWT are doing this special offer at weekends which may save people some money on some longer journeys.

If anyone had any recommendations of places on their network worth visiting I would be very please to hear.....

Cheers, Cellar :)

Yeah, find me a flight for the Christmas week for £3, I bet you can't! And find me a person who can take only hand luggange for a 10 day Christmas stay at home! Nevertheless, got 2 single flights for £20 each a few days ago, that's not bad, then the luggage and payment charges added another £40.

Go to work for free. Fancy free bus travel?

Travelling by bus is often quicker and more convenient than many people think. It gives you the chance to catch-up on work, read the newspaper or simply relax. So how about trying it out for yourself completely free?

Just answer a few questions to see if you’re eligible.

Remember though, if you do qualify for a week’s free bus travel, the ticket will only be for you – you won’t be able to give it to someone else and there’s only one application per household.

This First Group Free Bus Travel offer is open to residents of the UK, living in Aberdeen, Chester, Greater Manchester, Leeds and York only.

From the MSE newsletter:

Oyster Card £5 out of London returns
Online

From 26 June until 25 July Oyster Card and Freedom Pass is offering £5 off-peak returns out of London to several UK destinations when you print a special voucher. Yet anyone can get an Oyster card for £3 (refundable when you hand back the card) to access the deal.

To get the offer, fill in and print out the Days Out Guide voucher & show it to the booking office at your chosen London terminal to get the cheap ticket: http://www.daysoutguide.co.uk/oyster-voucher

Destinations include Brighton, Liverpool, Southampton, Stratford upon Avon and more, prices range from £5-£20 for either a day or month return. For example:

£5 return: Brighton, Bognor Regis, Eastbourne, Littlehampton or Southend-on-Sea.
£5 return: Arundel, Chichester, Dorking or Windsor.
£10 return: Oxford or Cambridge.
£15 return: Salisbury, Stratford-upon-Avon or Winchester .
£15 return: Birmingham, Liverpool or Southampton.
£20 return: Bournemouth, Bristol, Cardiff or Norwich.

See a full list of destinations included in the offer.

For an example of the savings you can make, an off-peak one month return from London Euston to Liverpool Lime Street would cost c. £65 (depending how far in advance you booked it), but with the Oyster Card special voucher would cost just £15, saving a hefty £50.

Or an off-peak day return to Brighton from London Victoria would normally cost c. £17 (again, depending when you booked it) but would be £5 with the Oyster Card voucher.

If you don't have an Oyster Card, get one at London stations at some shops or order it online from TFL and it'll be posted out first class. You'll have to p*y a £3 deposit for the card and can top it up a minimum of £5.

Urgent! Cheap Xmas train tickets just launched

From the MSE email
Eg, London-Manc £11 one way. Grab super-cheap advance fares asap
Everyone knows booking early means cheaper fares, yet Network Rail sets the timetable 12 weeks in advance, so that's the moment most super-cheap advance deals begin to be released - yet they sell out quickly. What Xmas tickets are available? We're at the crucial 12 wk point for Christmas now. Pre-Xmas day advance fares are out there for most companies, eg, Lon-Manc singles £11 on 23/24 Dec, or York-Glasgow £11.50. Yet tickets for after Xmas day will be released during the next week (it varies per operator). How to find them? TheTrainline* tools section has an advanced ticket alert system and both it and http://www.eastcoast.co.uk/(works for all UK rail lines) have long term cheap fare finders. Yet The Trainline has a £1 booking fee, which you can avoid by then b*ying at a station or via rail companies' own sites (eg, East Coast). Hidden tricks for huge savings: To really slice down train costs, throw the logic out the window. Split ticketing is the no. 1 example; a Leeds to Bristol return costs £230, yet the train stops in Derby. One MoneySaver b*ght 4 separate tickets (Leeds-Derby, Derby-Bristol & vice-versa) for the SAME train at the SAME time for £80

I've just booked my Christmas travel 1st class return on East Coast Rail for £30, when it could have been nearly £150 8O
preferred locations Shepherds Bush, Westfield, Notting Hill, Central London, Wimbledon, Islington, Wandsworth thanks
