20% off West Coast off-peak advance fares*
Via blagged link for journeys from 21-29 Oct

1 day left

Go via this blagged Virgin Trains West Coast* link to get 20% off 750,000 standard or first class off-peak adult advance fares on the West Coast line, including routes such as London to Birmingham, Preston to Glasgow and Manchester to London (see full map).
https://www.virgintrains.co.uk/mse-octo ... ign=157118

The discount is valid for travel from Sat 21 Oct until Sun 29 Oct – half-term for most schools in England. You'll need to book via the special link above by 11.59pm on Thu 5 Oct, or when 750,000 discounted fares have gone, whichever's sooner – the discounted fares will be shown in a yellow box.

Which trains are discounted advance fares available on?

The discounted advance fares are available on all off-peak services operated by Virgin Trains, but the number available per train will differ depending on demand, and prices will rise the closer to the departure date, so it's best to book as early as possible to bag a discounted fare.

Off-peak services are those arriving into major cities such as London after 9.30am/10am Mon-Fri, so this offer excludes morning commuter services.

You can book tickets for up to nine people, and collect your ticket from a station or print it out.

For return trips, you'll have to book two singles, so check both are at the discounted rate before booking. Unfortunately, no further discounts are available with a railcard.

Top example fares

When we checked on Tue 26 Sep, we found these discounted advance fares with this offer:
•£12.80 London to Birmingham return (£21.60 first class), departing Sun 22 Oct at 9.50am, returning Wed 25 Oct at 2.50pm – next cheapest off-peak fare £53.10.
•£25.60 Preston to Glasgow return (£57.60 first class), departing Mon 23 Oct at 10.41am, returning Fri 27 Oct at 1.40pm – next cheapest off-peak fare £72.40.
•£36.80 Manchester to London return (£72 first class), departing Sat 21 Oct at 11.15am, returning Tue 24 Oct at 9pm – next cheapest off-peak fare £83.90.

Tickets in this offer are only valid for the specific train and seat reserved online, and are non-refundable.

What about child and family tickets?

10% off Virgin Trains family ticketsWith these advance tickets, there isn't an additional discount for a child, but if you're travelling to/from London with at least one child (and up to a maximum of four), we've a blagged 10% off fixed-price family tickets for Sat 7 Oct to Sun 29 Oct travel, which could be cheaper – see Virgin Trains 10% off family tickets.

Save on group travel on Eurostar.

The winter chill is well and truly en route, but we've got a special group offer to get those warm and fuzzy feelings flowing.

Until 19 November, you'll p*y less when you b*y more tickets to Paris, Brussels, Lille or Calais... so everyone will have a little more to spend when they're there.

Paris or Brussels from just £25pp

2 people £28pp each way
3 people £27pp each way
4 to 9 people £25pp each way
For tickets in standard class*

Whether you go avec amis or famille, a group getaway has never sounded so good.

Book by 19 November to travel between 29th November 2017 and 28th March 2018.

Virgin Trains East Coast sale, eg, £16 London-Leeds return
50% off mostly off-peak travel 6 Jan-2 Mar

300,000 avail

Until 11.59pm on Wed 22 Nov, Virgin Trains East Coast is having a 50% off sale on selected trains across its network – stations between London King's Cross and Edinburgh, see full map – including one-way standard advance tickets available between London King's Cross and Leeds for £8 (£21.80 first class), and between Edinburgh and York for £8.60 (£17.90 first class). For discounted tickets on the West Coast network, see Virgin Trains West Coast sale below.

How to get the discounted tickets

Sale seats are valid for travel from Sat 6 Jan to Fri 2 Mar, excluding 10-18 Feb (half-term) and 24-25 Feb. To get the discounted seats, you’ll need to book by Wednesday via this Virgin Trains East Coast link – sale seats will be labelled 'Discounted'.

The cheap fares are randomly spread on trains across its East Coast network throughout the sale period, so it can be hit and miss as to whether the seat you want is discounted and it will involve a bit of trial and error to find the cheaper fares.

Virgin Trains says the sale tickets will mostly be on off-peak Mon-Sat trains, with limited availability during weekday peak times and on Sundays. Availability will also be very limited during planned engineering work.

There are 250,000 discounted standard and 50,000 discounted first class advance single tickets available (the sale launched at 10am on Mon 20 Nov). In the past, this has been very popular – so you'll need to 'make tracks' and be flexible on times and dates to get the cheapest tickets.

For return trips, you'll have to book two singles, so check both are at the discounted rate before booking.

Top example fares

We found these example fares on Mon 20 Nov, but advance tickets tend to rise in price closer to the date of travel so prices may go up:
•£16 standard return (£43.60 first class) London King's Cross to Leeds, departing Fri 2 Feb at 10.03am, returning Mon 5 Feb at 1.15pm.
•£25 standard return (£58.60 first class) London King's Cross to Edinburgh, departing Tue 23 Jan at 10.30am, returning Thu 25 Jan at 2pm.
•£26.50 standard return (£35.80 first class) Edinburgh to York, departing Wed 17 Jan at 10am, returning Sun 21 Jan at 10am.

It's worth noting that these tickets are only valid for the specific train and seat reserved online, and are non-refundable. Unfortunately, no further discounts are available with a railcard.

Are child tickets included?

Discounted child tickets are available in this sale for half the price of the adult sale ticket, so a family of four – two adults and two children – could visit London from Leeds for £48 return (£8 each way for each adult, £4 each way for each child).

Is this sale any good?

This isn't the cheapest we've seen East Coast seats – in November 2016, it offered London to Leeds return for £10, among other cheap fares – but this deal is still pretty strong and 50% off 300,000 seats could put you on the right track for some serious savings.

This Wednesday – the cheapest time to book millions of seats? Includes Oct half-term

Easyjet's prices are fluid and move based on demand for any particular flight. When they're released, they're usually priced cheaply, then this can change quickly depending on how many people are booking. So if you can pounce when they're launched, you're often getting the very cheapest deal.

When does it launch tickets?

They're released in several tranches throughout the year. Easyjet's prices are based on demand, so be ready to b*y on the day it launches a new wave of tickets and you're likely to get a good deal.

This Wednesday (22 November 2017) tickets go on sale for travel from 3 September 2018 to 27 October 2018. All the tickets will be released at the same time in the morning - Easyjet hasn't given an exact time but previously tickets have gone on sale very early.

20% off Family & Friends Railcard*
Online code gets one-year railcard for £24 (norm £30)
3 days left
Travelling by train with the family can be costly, but if you have a railcard, you could be on track for a decent saving.

Enter the code MSESUMMERFUN20A online at Family & Friends Railcard* before 11.59pm on Sat 21 Jul, and you can get the one-year railcard for £24 instead of the usual £30 – ideal for the school summer holiday. The card gives you a third off most adult rail fares and 60% off for kids when you travel together.

Even if you don’t use the train that often, just one rail trip costing over £72 can save you more than the £24 you'll have pa*d for the railcard.

How the railcard works:

Up to four adults aged 16 and over can get one-third off most rail fares (see below for restrictions) when travelling together with up to four children aged 5-15, who will get 60% off their fares. Under-5s go free anyway.
Two adults can be named on the card and at least one must be travelling whenever it's used.
You don't need to be related – so it's not just for families, but also friends who can share a card and each benefit from the discount, just as long as you travel with at least one child.
The Family & Friends Railcard can't be used on trains that depart before 9.30am weekdays, except public holidays, for journeys wholly within the London and South East Network Railcard area (see map) – outside this area there is no time restriction.

For the full terms, see Family & Friends Railcard*. You can't get this offer at train stations, only online.

It's worth noting, that you can get a three-year railcard for £70, so if you can afford it, then even with the 20% discount on a one-year railcard, it's slightly cheaper in the long run to b*y a three-year one if you'll use it (and if you or family members will still be eligible).
