Freddie Mercury was a unicorn, but Malek incorporates him so well that I got goosebumps.
We lost a great, great artist in 1991.

I have deleted a few comments above as a slanging match is no use to anyone, and I was getting fed up of the negative tone.

Can please everyone adhere to forum rule 7 to respect fellow members? I don't want to hear anymore in this matter, thank you.

the movie is strongest in both its musical recreations and its scenes creating new music but weakest in the lesser supporting cast. You'd be forgiven for thinking that the entire gay population were white moustached clones with the same sweaty faces, stressed expressions and pink cheeks that stand around saying next to nothing all day. Faruks girlfriend was similarly portrayed as a mopey do-nothinger, which must surely be unfair.

They have made what they can with the plot, largely resting on Faruk's showman personality, though some fakery in the detailsof his motives. Film biographies are rarely unembellished anyway because they'd be boring if they werent.

That said the poppier scenes are fun enough, if never demanding or great film making, to carry the majority of the movie. And those songs are terrific to watch performed, coming from a Queen semi-fan like myself. Their concept album The Works is the one most borrowed from. Bohemian Rap is one of there worst songs, IMHO, just a mishmash. Their mid80s phase was my fav.

I can see why you can call it a middling movie, but you'd have to ignore the soul of the music completely to think its not good fun to watch at times. I'd have been happy to have watched more of their live music recreations, like what came before and after Live Aid (eg Queens own Wembley concert etc)
Films of 2018
DeathOfStalin, Avengers3, LeaveNoTrace, IntoTheSpiderverse3D..., (TBC)

Decent enough film, I saw it yesterday.
It was full of false facts throughout though.
As John Deacon wasn't the bass player when Freddie joined Smile, they didn't sell their van for time in a recording studio.
We will Rock you was released in the 1977 (despite the film showing it being written in the 80's).
The film also depicted a two year band break up prior to live aid, this was untrue, the band didn't need to get together again as they had just completed their 'The Works' tour earlier that year (1985). Freddie was portrayed as having aids prior to the live aid concert, although according to his partner Jim Hutton, Freddie was diagnosed with AIDS in late April 1987.
However it is a watchable movie, a film based 'very' loosely on the facts.
