The Showcase in Nant Garw was late to show the film, then had the taped music playing over the top of the film, then when the music stopped and we could hear the film they stopped the film to re-start.

There were also a few walk outs and OH wished he could have joined them. OH found this way too sentimental for him and personally I too found this difficult to focus on. I got a bit fixated myself on Max von Sydows' coat. One minute he was wearing it, the next he was running behind a bush without it.

The boy reminded us of the child in Sixth sense, that is, the way he talked. You say this was a nominated film? No way!

Thanks Beate for the correction, will not rely on OH's film actor knowledge in future

I completely agree with you :)

I'm actually quite surprised by all those saying that 9/11 is "used" in the film to tug at people's heartstrings. Film, novels, etc. extensively use big disasters such as the second World War as well, I don't see why 9/11 is any different in that regard.

With a cast including Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock and Max von Sydow, quality-acting performances were expected and delivered. This family drama, concerning how surviving members deal with the death of a loved one, was told with some happy, some sad moments. The storyline was intriguing and kept ones interest throughout. Tom Hanks was very good and Sandra Bullock gave a moving performance, demonstrating an acting range which is not always obvious from her many “scatty female” roles. Plus a real bonus in the performance of 82 year old Max von Sydow ~ a personal favourite of mine ranging from the knight in the outstanding classic The Seventh Seal, through the priest in The Exorcist, to the “good German” in the hugely entertaining Escape To Victory. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is altogether an excellent movie.

Saw this at the O2 on Monday. I don't think I have been to a Times+ screening in a long time. This film is a bit long and not as emotional gripping as I thought it would be but perhaps I prepared myself a bit after reading the reviews from Sunday. The scene about the phone ringing really undone me and you kind off understood the kid more and why he was so adamant on continuing. I would have loved to see this when I wasn't as tired as I was, maybe then I would have engaged a bit more with the film. 8/10

Matt Turner didn't like it. Neither did Danny Leigh last night.
