Saw this last night in Kingston - where it was the usual shambles with the staff not knowing what to do with these screenings. When they had eventually got their act together, we were allowed into the auditorium and 6:27 pm - and the film started promptly at 6:30pm. Come on guys, it's the same every time - you know the screening is taking place a long time in advance - all we are asking for is a bit of organisation - shouldn't be that difficult.

An interesting film. It started off showing the side of Linda Lovelace that we all thought we knew - i.e. how she went into porn movies voluntarily and willingly. However halfway through the film it completely changed and we saw the manipulative side of her husband and how he brought violence to their relationship. Amanda Seyfried brought some genuine vulnerability to the role and really brought home the fact that the majority of porn stars have some sort of background story we never normally hear about and explains why they do what they do. I have only just realised that Sharon Stone played the role of her mother. I didn't see that one coming - she was completely unrecognisable.

On a lighter note - loved the 70's touches - the glasses, fashions, hairstyles and especially the wallpaper! All in all, I would give the film 6/10.

I'd heard of THE film but had not really bothered to find out anything about her. I wouldn't have pa*d to see Lovelace in the cinema because I wouldn't have been interested in the film beforehand.

The acting was quite good and given the subject matter, it wasn't too graphic. Overall, an interesting and enlightening film.

I knew that my Metro ticket would cost us our usual seats. We were first in line and I ran to the till like the wind to get the tickets exchanged then ran up the stairs to the screen but too late - some bloody members were sitting in OUR seats. I didn't want to sit next to the people who stole our seats so sat a row in front. Plenty of legroom but just not high enough. Developed back ache. Not happy.

Also, OH kept nodding off during the film. He claims he didn't but he was snoring with his mouth wide open. Delightful.

I hope the guy I had a nice chat with while waiting for the Greenwich Picturehouse doors to open remembers his FMUK username again. You were talking to the admin.

I thought Amanda Seyfried was very good, as was Sharon Stone as her mother. The most illuminating bits about the 70s weren't the hairdos, clothes or wallpaper - it was that dreadful attitude about how women should behave and that they get what they deserve and have to obey their husbands. And yes, Chuck was thoroughly unpleasant. He beat her, he threatened her, he made her film a porn movie, hired her out as a prostitute and had her gang-raped. I don't know how much more evidence anyone needs. It must have been so hard for her to get away and I was really pleased to see she managed a normal life afterwards.

7.5/10

Hi all - i'm new here!
Saw this on 15th in Plymouth... first experience of a free film. And really enjoyed this film. Loved the fact that it was all hinted at rather than shown... your mind will make it more graphic than your eyes ever could. The power of suggestion. Very clever film. Just hoping i get to see another free film soon! Live out in the sticks a bit - Exeter is closest to me for free screenings, but that's still an hour's drive away! :)

None of the usual shenanigans at the Brixton PH yesterday thankfully.

I thought it was a very sad story and couldn't help compare it to the Tina Turner film which was much more graphic in terms of the domestic violence. Which this film lacked and to be honest needed to depict just how bad DV is and was in this particular story. Hinting just doesn't cut it, aswell as jumping 6 years which was a bit annoying. Lots of underused actors too I wish I'd seen more of.

I wouldn't have pa*d to watch this but it was an interesting film nevertheless.

Mrs Feudin_banjo and I went to see this last week in a more or less empty screen at the Showcase, Coatbridge.

I enjoyed the film and compared it to a "Boogie Nights" with less humour and more violence. I do believe that it could have been done better, although has possibly fell victim to bad editing following various lawsuits taken out by the porn studio Arrow Productions (publicity attempt maybe...), which is evidenced by the lack of "more than five minutes of unlicensed footage from Deep Throat" described in this BBC news article-

Lovelace fails to fully penetrate the dark heart of the story despite some hard core performances from an excellent cast. http://ilovethatfilm.blogspot.co.uk/201 ... eview.html

Just like many others I was totally unable to recognize Sharon Stone. I thought the cast was excellent and I loved the way the movie was divided into two parts / two perspectives. It was a clever move because it makes you revise the way you feel about Lovelace in sort of the same way her parents and other people did it back then. First, you're allowed to feel judgmental and you may or may not empathize with her. But as soon as the darker side of the story emerges, it becomes very difficult not to empathize with her and see her and her circumstances in a totally different light.

Being unaware of her life story, I was prepared to see a very different film (the first part only). It was one of the few movies I've seen lately that was able to truly surprise me.

I left the cinema a little ill at ease with myself. Sexual violence disturbs me immensely (and I mean in a "doesn't sleep for a week" way). It was not however because of the subject matter. Some things just didn't ring true. There were too many questions i needed answers to. Linda did not convince me, even with the polygraph. I did not like that i found myself questioning Linda's story. I felt that there was a piece missing.

So i did a little bit of research afterwards. My conclusion is that the film was intending the viewer to formulate their own opinions, having being given two sides to the story, one being with the benefit of hindsight and free of the influence of any illegal substance. I liked this way of filming. I did not like the subject matter.

Some good performances also.
