The Hundred-Foot Journey
Saw this film last month while knowing very little about it (other than that it would include food) and I ended up falling in love with this charming story. Yes, there is some fantastic food being prepared and eaten in the film (be warned: you will get hungry) but I ended up becoming much more invested in the story of Hassan (both the rivalry between his family restaurant and the Michelin-starred competition across the road as well as the subtle romantic story running alongside it); a very likeable lead and one I found myself rooting for from the start.
Initially I was a bit annoyed that Helen Mirren played the owner of the French restaurant, why not get an actually French actress after all, but of course she quickly won me over with her convincing performance and soon this didn't matter to me anymore. To me, the feel of the film really reminded me of The Great Exotic Marigold Hotel, though most of the main characters are probably about half a century younger in The Hundred-Foot Journey.
Would happily watch it again. 9/10

If you're interested, you can get the book with The Sunday Telegraph tomorrow - just take it to a Tesco Express.

I recommend the book! We got one at the screening too and from the first few pages it sounds good :)

Saw this tonight thanks to O2 Priorities, even took my mum. Nice is the word. Maybe even stretching to pleasant. But just a bit too nice. The Americans will love it. And as has been said, you will leave hungry.

A lovely feel-good film with the family on a Sunday morning.
There were four of us, 9 out of 10 from us ladies, 7 out of 10 from OH.

Re: The Hundred-Foot Journey
Really enjoyed this film. Helen Mirren as usual was very good but for me Om Puri as the Papa stole the show. Everyone laughed out loud at his comment of the magazine photo of his son in his chef's black jacket and hat! Predictable but easy watching with plenty of humour in it. Would watch it again. 9/10

Re: The Hundred-Foot Journey
Caught this film this morning and would say it was a gentle, pleasant way to spend a Sunday morning.
Easy watching, a few laughs and certainly some mouth-watering food on display. However, the OH enjoyed it far more than I did and she shed a few tears at some points.
Oh, Om Puri absolutely stole every scene he was in! :)

Re: The Hundred-Foot Journey
Poorly paced & hum drum.
Actors seemed to lose interest with about 30 mins to go, as did most of the audience. Credits should have rolled prior to the Paris segment.
Another film aimed squarely at the grey-pound, ala marigold hotel.
Food was oddly unappetizing. Don't think we will see a surge in the demand for sea urchin happening, looked yucky.

Re: The Hundred-Foot Journey
An enjoyable feel good film. Just a shame the last 30 minutes seemed to drag. However, overall enjoyed by both of us.
