LOVED LOVED LOVED THIS.

When I saw the actor's names come up on screen I had high hopes already, I mean Bill Nighy, Imelda Staunton, Paddy Considine, Dominic West, George Mackay - it has to be good, right? I have always been a little bit in love with George Mackay from the first film I saw him in, even though I am aware I am old enough to be his mother.

This is feel-good as it comes, in the vein of Made in Dagenham, very funny, heartwarming, occasionally a bit too cosy but very well-acted, and best of all, the story is true. I admit I had no idea about this particular part in history about the miner's strike, but it deserves being told. I was very moved by the end credits, when they said what happened to some of the people.

Dominic West dancing had to be one of the highlights!

10/10

Pure. Dead. Brilliant!
What a surprise. This was really really good indeed. Loved it from start to finish.
I've never seen a film as good as this from the point of view of nostalgia, music, detail, acting, known faces, comedy, pathos, drama and above all PRIDE.
I couldn't fault it. I really didn't think the story sounded like it could be as captivating.
The rousing closing music was already bringing a lump to my throat and then there are several surprises in the closing scenes.

10/10

Easily.

Also so much the better for not indulging in anything titilating or shocking for the sake of shock. One that you CAN watch with your granny.

Ditto.

A wonderful film, I was expecting something good from the people involved similar to Made in Dagenham, but I thought this was even better.

A great balance of humour and drama an full of great moments including two really powerful ones
Spoiler
Show
the miners turning up to show support at the end and the girl starting the song before everyone else joined in

Back from Glasgow where there were a lot of empty seats and it wasn't even a big screen.

Both OH and love this. What a cast Bill Nighy, Imelda Staunton, Dominic West, Andrew Scott (he just gets better and better), George MacKay, Ben Schnetzer, Joseph Gilgun (Always loved him as Woody in This Is England), Freddie Fox and Paddy Considine (who we just saw last night in Hot Fuzz)
It was a charming wee story that definitely didn't out stay it's time even at 111 minutes long. Whilst I can remember the miner's strike I don't remember this section of it but glad to be educated about it. Love the soundtrack to this too. 8/10

Not too many people at WIQ either. Some people clapped at the end, so I did too.

There were a few people whose faces looked familiar but who I couldn't place - I just realised the guy who played Mark Ashton was Max in The Book Thief!
But I can't find the guy who played Sian's husband and I know I've seen him before! Help!

Only about 16 people at Bolton. What a shame. The film was good

Very few in Edinburgh as well. Nothing else on in city (apart from Festival) and not exactly a gorgeous evening either. Can only presume that this didn't seem attractive. How wrong they were! Bet the second screening next month is busier.

Was Mike (Woody in This is England) not in Emmerdale Farm?
Thought Bill Nighty was great being Welsh. So was Moriarty!
All the well-kent faces in this were so believable that this could almost have been a documentary rather than a drama.

This was a brilliant British film. I remember the Miners Strike as a kid but I don't remember the Gay and Lesbian march or the impact the movement clearly had. I did grow up in rural Scotland so that may well have something to do with it!
Really excellent acting all round and this really deserves a big audience.

9/10 from me.

Was at the Cardiff showing which was two thirds full, great film funny and poignant. My partner was involved in the miners strike so brought back memories for him. 10 out of 10 and there was also applause at end of film. Definitely one to recommend to family and friends.
