The Connection

Arrived at Hackney Picturehouse at 5.40 for a 6pm screening and told they were not ready, and film will start at 6.10pm. They were putting out goody bags, which contained a ShortList Magazine and a Stella Artois Chalice, and a welcome card to the special preview. They then ticked our names off a guest list, and then ticked our names off again when we were allowed to go in! Double security, and the screen was not even full.

This was so, so boring and disappointing! After such an interesting trailer, it seems all the best bits were in the trailer. The bad guy and the good guy looked so alike, I spent the whole film getting confused who is who and to make matters worst they both had two little girls! It was so long too, and felt flat and cliched. Quite like the soundtrack though, with songs from the 70's - Blondie and Kim Wilde. 2/10

Good to see ejwrank and husband, elski, Livi and missgotty.

I quite enjoyed it. I thought they got the look and feel of the 70's down to a T. I like John Dujadin, so I could tell them both apart, but they did look very similar. 7/10

Clapham was pretty busy with a massive queue, and people rushing around trying to get tickets for other films or drinks at the bar. |It really is a very small foyer for all that activity. We were kept waiting until about 5.50pm then all allowed in. It was pretty full but \i had the front row to myself, and managed to get 3 Chalices. o/

Saw this in Clapham Picturehouse. I joined three queues before I found the right one. Nobody knew which queue was which; the foyer was totally chaotic! I actually thought the film was interesting in that it showed “The French Connection” from the French point of view. It was based in the 70’s and very cleverly, it actually looked as if it was shot in the 70’s as the colours were slightly muted. The soundtrack was great – French hits of the 70’s. It was based more on the truth than some of the recent films I have seen. My one problem was that the main good guy (Pierre Michel) looked very similar to the main bad guy (Zampa) and another bad guy (The Banker). So at one point I was struggling to work out who was who! The plot showed how relentless the criminals were – and likewise how relentless the police were in trying to stop them. 7/10

I saw this at Manchester Home - new cinema - tonight and thought it was fabulous! Even got a free Stella Artois chalice glass to boot! The film was gripping, well-acted and based on a true series of events. I was so engrossed that didn't even notice the very short change to English when there was a scene in America! Changed my view on subtitled films - a definite 9/10 from me on this one. It was a pity that the cinema was less than half full but all the tickets had been allocated...

Saw this very good film tonight in an excellent new cinema in Manchester. I also got a free glass as well o/

I was gripped all the way through, though it could maybe have been 15 minutes or so shorter, and had no trouble spotting the main goodie and baddie - I did struggle with a couple of the lesser characters though.

Whilst a lot of the situations were very familiar from other films this felt fresh, partly because I only knew one of the actors involved. I also loved how, apart from one montage, the passing of time was quite subtly shown by the change in fashion, cars and particularly the soundtrack becoming more and more electronic/80s. Overall very good 8/10

I saw this on Saturday afternoon in Stratford and it was only about 25% full. And there was a lady ticking off names at the door too so not sure what that may mean for all the no shows (if anything). We got the cards but no free glass.

I liked the film. Yes the two main characters did look alike but I did manage to tell them apart but agree with what Yogi said about the lesser characters. It was a little tricky to follow at times and felt a bit drawn out towards the end but overall i thought it was a good job. Crazy Horse reminded me of Dandy from romanzo criminale. Could have been better with some tweaks but glad i saw it. 7/10
