Eddie The Eagle

Brilliant! A nicely rounded film. Plenty of known faces and a story that we are all very familiar with makes this a joy to watch.
There are times when Taron Edgerton just IS Eddie Edwards. (There are moments of pure caricature as well though). Nice to see Lord Darling in something too.
I'd have liked a lot more of the back story - when he was a lad, but this was all squeezed into the intro.

One wee point - did they have Carver skis back then? I thought they were a more recent thing.

Anyone else think that The Flying Finn looked like he was played by Macaulay Culkin?
Huge Ackman did a good job in supporting, even if he was meant to be an American.

Felt really proud watching this. Proud to be British.

10/10 from me. Best film of the year. Much better than that Paul Potts biopic.

Loved it! Great feel good film and well acted throughout. I obviously remember the real Eddie the eagle and the media reaction at the time. Great evening's entertainment.

Dexter Fletcher could well become the go to director for turning unpromising film pitches into unlikely crowd-pleasers if Eddie the Eagle is anything to go by.

Having already managed the seemingly impossible by making a pretty decent musical out of the songs of The Proclaimers with Sunshine on Leith, Fletcher turns to the '88 Winter Olympics most loveable loser with this Cool Runnings style 'underdog against the establishment' feel good charmer.

Admittedly it doesn't offer much that's new in this particular genre as training montages follow crushing set backs on the way to modest but cheer-worthy glory but it does so with charm and panache.

Fletcher's confidence as a director continues to improve and he is assisted by an incredibly likeable performance from Taron Egerton who brings real warmth and determination to his role as the aspiring Olympian. Hugh Jackman also excels in a role that is more than just a supporting one, his ski-jump coach's journey to acceptance having been a disgraced ski-jumper given just as much weight as Eddie's attempts to prove everyone wrong.

By Fletcher's own admission he didn't immediately see the appeal of telling this particular story but by the closing credits you'll probably be glad he did.

Oh and Press Gang fans should get a kick out of seeing one of Fletcher's co-stars from the show making an amusing cameo as a Sun reporter

I was at school when this was the big news story. Really enjoyed it. Nice happy British feel good movie. Thought both leads very good. HJ did seem to give up being Anerican fairly early on but seemed to be having a blast!
8/10 from a 1/2 full Vue OT.

Thought the Sun reporter was hilarious. Only thing missing was him being a Spitting Image wolf! He looked every bit the proverbial hack. All the more funny with me sitting with the Times crowd (amidst vast clouds of dust and face powder) while only a few miles away the Sun readers were watching in a different Vue.

Loved it. Even had the odd tear trickle down one cheek.
I remembered Eddie on the 'telly' and how he went from 'loser' to everyones favourite at the games. HJ looked liked he was really enjoying his role and Taron Egertonwas brilliant as the underdog daring to have a go.

Should be shown in all primary schools as an inspiration of will over adversity. At least it will give them a break from all the testing!

Heartwarming, I smiled and laughed all the way through. The film is very broad and Eddie seems a bit too bumbling at times, but you can't help rooting for him and leave with added respect for his drive, dedication and bravery.

Hugh Jackman was very good in washed up Real Steel mode and Taron Egerton was excellent, was this really the same cool super spy from Kingsmen. Always good to see Jim Broadbent and Christopher Walken as well.

Even felt like cheering at a couple of points, but didn't want to break the cinema code 8/10

Absolutely loved it. As an American who was born in 1985, I admit I knew nothing about Eddie the Eagle. I've since read about him and found out that much of the movie is not true to his life, but it's still a great film. A real feel good film, it put me in a good mood for the day. :) 10/10
