The Accountant

#1 Post by Yinster » Tue Oct 18, 2016 5:12 pm

So this is film 3 in Hong Kong for us. Strange that this has been here since October 13th. Decided to see this as it looked good plus always good to see a film before it is released in the UK.

Anyhoo personally I loved it. OH thought it was ok but as it is my review then it is a yes from me. When you think the word the Accountant then you might think boring but it is far from it. It is about a mystery guy who criminals go to whenever they need financial advices. However the Treasury department is also trying to catch him. I liked the way the story is told about his childhood with his father and brother and growing up in between the main story of his working at Living Robotics after a young in house accountant notices some discrepancies within the books.

There are a few twists and oohs from the audience as the story unfolds but I will say this
Spoiler
Show
the accountant isn't just an accountant. He's like a fighting machine and does like shooting people in the head.
Overall at 128 minutes it never felt like that to me. 9/10

We never think 'accountant' is boring in our family . When I told Aunty and OH there was a film out called 'The Accountant', they both guessed what it meant, although we thought he would also be the count the bodies and clean up guy. We thought of Burton in Banshee and 'Mr Caplan' in Blacklist, both ordinary, boring looking people, but experts with the gun.

I hope I get to see this one.

Saw this at a busy Zocean Terrible last night.
Wasn't sure what to expect but I did get engrossed in it.
Not sure how the accountant kept in quite such good shape?!
It was an interesting twist snd turn. Thought J K Simmons was v good.

It's brilliant SS! I loved it too. Went to the premiere, but due to a mix up with tickets, we never got much chance to watch the red carpet but saw the cast at the few minutes of intro, where Ben Affleck laughs, "Don't know why you have all given me the mike!", and proceeded to introduce the film for a minute and then they were off.

Lots of clever twists. The back story is interesting, and the script is really good too. The film is smart and entertaining. Ben Affleck's character makes you want to laugh, cry and cheer! Everyone should see it. It is well worth another watch. I hope I get a chance to do that!

Sorry - but I was so bored by this. Perhaps my expectations were too high.

Could have been good, but so many plot holes.

Wow. I'm really disturbed by what you're writing. If someone has Alzheimer's then naturally he fails to realise he's causing problems - that's part of the disease. It really saddens me the way you talk about someone with dementia. If you don't want to help that person anymore, that's your prerogative, but please don't call him names on here. Every person with dementia is different. Not everyone is as sweet and cuddly as my OH. But none of them deserve to be disrespected on a public forum.
If you or anyone else want to learn how to use some compassion with someone with dementia, read this link: http://www.alz.org/greaterdallas/docume ... teComm.pdf

Well said, Beate. I was shocked to read Cortone's post.

I agree with Beate & pretty cool. I have meet Your Hubby Beate. He is lovely. Until You have cared for and been close to someone Who is stuffering. You shouldn't judge. No one knows it could happen to them in the future. Beate's Hubby loves His trips to the cinema.

Saw this tonight as the second of a double header with a rapid rush between cinemas and no dinner. Well worth it though. This is a really good film. The trailer certainly doesn't do it justice. Kept me engrossed all the way through. Think I want to see it again just to get my head around all the ins and outs.

Rather splendid.

Cineworld Unlimited is cheating! ;-)

Saw this at Odeon Greenwich tonight. A bit of a slow burner. Luckily I like puzzles! I didn't understand all the ins and outs of Living Robotics or whatever they were called, and their missing $61 million, but Ben Affleck as autistic accountant cum assassin was kind of fascinating, and Anna Kendrick provided a passable sidekick.

The twists at the end were well done. However, it's not a film I would want to watch again, there was too much that didn't make sense to me.

Folks at Greenwich were a bit unruly tonight, we had pensioners trying to queue jump, latecomers, talkers and consumptives coughing all the way through. Plus the film started without sound which caused about ten minutes delay and made the noise level go up again because everyone felt the need to provide their own soundtrack instead. I was very glad when the film restarted with sound!
