I agree. The screening room was awful. I always feel I'm looking at the screen at an angle (although I'm not) because of the shape of the room.

As for the film. This was the second time I'd seen it and it really holds up to another viewing. Gloriously funny and inventive stuff.

Saw this at Cineworld, Edinburgh this morning. Almost full and, as usual, people coming in as the film had started!!

Enjoyable, quirky characters. 7 out of 10 for me as subtitles always put me off a bit.

Iwas at Haymarket, and apologies I was 4 mins late - pesky tubes on a Sunday leave a lot to be desired :Embarrassed:
anyway I'm in a minority here. I didn't like this film at all. I didn't get the humour, found all the characters repulsive and grotesque. Where the audience were clearly enjoying it, I was scratching my head, why couldn't I get it? Still my mate who came with me and another mate there both loved it so a good morning, 2 out of 3 had a good time.

I won't mark this film as I knew I was taking a risk and just cos its not my thing, doesn't make it a bad movie

Seen the trailers for Micmacs and thought it would be unusual and as subtitles don't put me off, hoped it wouldn't be dubbed.

The cinema seemed quite empty but I think the screening was for winners of competitions - a lot of the tickets had names on them. Thanks to elski.

I really enjoyed it - yes it was a bit slapstick, yes it was showing the not so up market parts of Paris, yes it made me laugh and feel a bit sad in parts but what a film. I would p*y money, yes money to see this again.

9/10

Saw this at the Tyneside Cinema @ Newcastle this morning. Was offered differently to most screenings, you didn't apply online, you just had to turn up at the box office this morning to claim your tickets, and there werent many who did that. A real shame though as I thoroughly enjoyed the film. Original and very amusing, the subtitles werent hard to follow either. An utter joy.

Oh yes, it was posted on the North East regional board. Must admit I don't go there very often. I hope all Newcastle members saw it.

Saw this in Edinburgh this morning and have to agree with the majority. Great quirky film, lots of little amusing bits. Great characters, great acting and well worth going to see. Even subtitles did not put me off.

Saw this in York, although nearly turned back after the car 3 in front of me spun off the road due to the snow. Parked in the centre of town, as I worried about the car being snowbound when I got out.

I agree that these characters were different, but not sure that I would call them 'grotesque' or 'repulsive' - in fact, I thought they were more true to life than in most films, just as the Paris environments showed a more realistic view of a big city.

But beyond this - it was fun and fantasy. It had a good story, and the characters were original and humorous. Visually it was interesting, and it had been plotted so that most things hung together. The actors were brilliant, and there was so much energy about this. I loved the political jokes too - about the president and his wife.

BTW - "As Jeunet explains it, "Micmacs" owes much to the Disney cartoon "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs."

BTW - York was fairly full, and PeteYork and Allsinging were there too. We all enjoyed it - Pete especially!

I agree, didn't like this at all either. A fair amount of the humour was lost on me, despite the subtitles, and I just couldn't get into it. It felt very long and drawn out, and seemed a lot longer than it actually was. It was just far too wacky and weird for me. I'll give it 4/10.

I agree with Cortone, the characters were basically outcasts because of their special abilities or what they had suffered (Bazil lost his job and flat while he was in hospital trying to survive being shot in the head, not very fair if you ask me!), Mama Chow had lost her daughters, the others just were a bit strange or could do things no one else could (like the contortionist or the calculator). I felt great warmth towards them, and the way they dealt with the warmongers was just inspired, an absolute joy to watch and so funny. The little scenes like the inventor presenting Mama Chow with a bunch of mechanical flowers, or Bazil listening to the couple with the dog in bed first before finding the right chimney, or accidentally sending the tourists round the airport with handsigns really is what made this film work. I would gladly see it again.
