Absolutely brilliant film - totally inspirational. Really showed the hell and the abyss that war was about, no glorifying here. I thought Mel did really well. As others have said a film off two halves but definitely one I can recommend. 9/10

I thought this was brilliant. Like a ninny I'd arrived in good time (unusual for me I know!) only to discover I was at wrong cinema! Decided to mAke a cross city dash. Maybe missed first 7 minutes but soon caught up. Sadly the trailer contains the whole story from start to finish and the film merely pads this out, but boy is it good. The war scenes are extremely graphic and relentless and you really feel like you're there.

Sir Andy Murray Garfield does seem to be channel the dour Scots tennis player more and more as the film progresses. I wonder who he'll get to play him in the Hollywood blockbuster, Andy? A shoe-in, no? Lol.
Always nice to see extra footage at end too.

Some good reviews on here. That's reassuring.

I enjoyed the film, good story and great to see the real person giving his account at the end.
Good to see Vince Vaughn in more than his usual comedy setting.
9/10

My dad didn't often talk about his being in the war, just dribs and drabs at times. From seeing what was portrayed I can see why.

Although Hacksaw Ridge started off quite slow, as soon as the action started I was glued to the screen. It's an unbelievable true story. Make sure you stay for the post credit clips.

A true story that made me cry like a baby.
Extremely graphic but a true depiction of how stupid war really is.
Good acting. Highly recommended.
I didn't realised that it was a Mel Gibson movie so he has gone up in my estimation.
9/10 from me.

I'm not sure the movie actually says this which was one of my problems with it.

It could have ended when
Spoiler
Show
the Japanese take back the ridge and Dors brings the survivors down.
Then it would show how dumb the back and forth was as it just meant casualties and still highlight the bravery of one man.

But it doesn't
Spoiler
Show
the Americans go back yet again, I'm fairly sure there's a montage of Japanese bodies piling up and ultimately it's a triumph. It points towards faith at the end rather than futility.

I agree with all that others have posted about this film. It's not for the faint hearted as the gore is horrific. Doss was an amazing man and it was great to see the survivors acknowledge his bravery when they were interviewed many years later.

Amazing story and it's very touching when Doss said "just one more", and sent one by another from top of the cliff. Worthy of watching.
