No real surprises although odd for Elle to get a best actress nomination but not get into the foreign language (or even best film) category

I totally agree, elski, it will be interesting to see how the Academy vote especially as they have 600 new members.

Well he is in less than half the film, as he doesn't appear until just over an hour into the film. Sunny Pawar as the younger Saroo actually has more screen time.

No real surprises here, but the fact that Meryl Streep still pops up on these lists is flabbergasting to me. She must have amazing gift-wrapping skills.

True but he is billed as the lead. I realise it's a studio ploy as often they put an actor into that category when they think they have a better chance of winning.
