I had seen a few references to this film on TV but had great difficulty in finding a local cinema which was screening it. As no Odeon screening, I had to use a voucher to see the film in Cineworld, Glasgow.
The film concerns the true libel trial by David Irving against Penguin books and Deborah E. Lipstad. The actors in the film were very good and in particular Timothy Spall who played David Irving. Rachel Weisz was also very good as Ms Lipstad and remind me of a young Julia Roberts.
I really enjoyed the film and the audience were generally enthralled.
If you are interested in films of true stories you will probably enjoy Denial.

Re: Denial
I did not know this was a recent film, as I saw it on my flight home yesterday, and it did not say what year it was made, and I hardly recognised Timothy Spall as he looked so slim! Also Tom Wilkinson seem to look younger too. So I thought it must be an old film when they were younger, but it conflicted with Rachel Weisz, as she should have looked a lot younger then
I really enjoyed the film, it was really captivating. It is well cast, with Weisz, Spall and Wilkinson. Andrew Scott from Sherlock is the hot shot solicitor. Even Jeremy Paxman pops up as himself. Also well scripted. I could not believe that this ridiculous case existed to prove that the Holocaust did happen. The courtroom drama was really riveting, and the ins and outs very tense, with an emotional climax.

Re: Denial
I saw this at the Imperial War Museum after seeing their holocaust exhibit, which is well worth seeing. I had not heard of this libel case before watching the film. It seems unbelievable that someone would have to prove that the holocaust happened and that another person would actually lie about it knowingly. It was interesting to see Rachel Weisz's dilemma about wanting to have her say in court and the legal advice she received from her counsel. This film was powerful. disturbing and compelling to watch. If you have not seen it, it is now out on dvd. 8.5/10

Re: Denial
With the DVD release of Denial out now the Imperial War Museum put on a screening as well as a viewing the holocaust exhibition and Q&A discussion about the holocaust and the making of the film. The Q&A was really interesting I definitely learnt a thing or too. As for the film Rachel Weisz didn't really have a lot of narrative to say, so her presence in the film was quite understated. There wasn't really a standout performance but the story the film is based on is unbelievable. It's a good film and definitely had me captivated.

Re: Denial
on iplayer at the moment, good film though somewhat incredulous to believe that a trial had to happen for such a topic. History I guess does get rewritten a lot though, so maybe not the incredulous. A noble topic to make a movie for, but sad that lies can justify such a brouhaha. Weisz american accent has improved in the 20 years shes been doing them but Spall is miles ahead with his portrayal of that demonic guy Irving whose career is such an angry failure that he has taken to peddling lies to cater for a minority neo nazi market.
