Patriots Day

#1 Post by steve9872 » Mon Feb 20, 2017 11:04 pm

This is a brilliant film. It follows the lives of a lot of people and how they were affected by the bombs and the aftermath. 9/10

I really didn't like this at all. It was contrived, manipulative and bordering on misguided propaganda. 5/10.

I had a feeling it would be. I was going to see if any tickets came up for it but I'm not sure I should bother!

An interesting but yet a confusing film.
So many sub-plots woven into the screenplay, but difficult to identify which was which.
It perhaps fitted in with the action, but the 'f-word' count was very, very high.

I thoroughly enjoyed this. Slightly distracting having such well known actors playing parts of real people, especially Kevin Sausage, Marky Mark and John Goodman, but they were all believable in their roles. Even the police Sgt who looked like a tortoise! Interesting for a film to have been made on such a recent event - makes a change from historical dramas. Also of interest was how the film filled out the gaps in events that we as news viewing public weren't party to. I do wonder how much extra drama was injected - in gun battles etc. The bomb itself was rather a damp squib from a cinema point of view but then it looked true to life. Lump in throat moment when the policeman who'd stood guard over the body of the 8 year old boy for so long, then his salute as it was uplifted. Prolonged real life epilogue made the whole film seem more like a documentary.

Hard to think that that item of excrement is still alive, though waiting for execution, and has probably even seen the movie. May he rot in hell.

Very gripping account of the tragic events and the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombing, and the race to find the suspects, mixed with real footage.

Mark Wahlberg was one of the producers, which explains why he was in almost every scene.

The real people gave their accounts afterwards, from the FBI and the police to the victims, making it feel very much like a docu-film.

7/10

The screening at Vue Piccadilly was jam packed. Nice to see so many familiar faces.

I enjoyed this film too and also fact checked it this morning to see how 'hollywood' it may have been. Pleased to read, aside from Mark Wahlberg's composite character, the events are largely as they were in real life.

As with a lot of the 'based on true events' film of late (especially Lion) the p*y off is with the real life interviews at the end. Its hard not to be affected by them and I walked out of the cinema with a proper lump in my throat and could see many other people wiping a tear, my OH included.

I'm not sure the timing of the film is great though given American / Muslim relations and wonder how Trump would react to such a tragedy. It was nice to see Kevin Bacon's character contemplate the impact on Muslim relations when being pushed to release the photos. You worry Trump would incite a vigilante manhunt turning friend on friend.

Given the accuracy of events, the film deserves an 8/10

What about the college guys hiding the bomb making stuff. What absolute idiots but was still shocked to see they were jailed for it!

I really enjoyed this film even if the content was upsetting. At a Q & A at Central Picturehouse Sgt. Jeff Pugliese (policeman who shot dead one of the terrorists ) said that the gun battle with the police was true to life in fact a lot of film footage was wasted initially as it had not been factual. It was good to see photos of the real people and how they had managed to cope in light of the event. 8/10

I thought this was a really good film, it was interesting to see the human side of this after all of the news coverage at the time. 8/10
