Annabelle: Creation

#1 Post by sfancy » Fri Aug 04, 2017 11:28 am

Just saw this last night at a preview. I enjoyed it and jumped a few times ( but I'm wimpy) but it doesn't have a path on the conjuring..

A bit of a slow burner - I think were it not for it's pedigree I may have given up on it if I was watching on telly. It does improve so worth persevering. Unusually it's virtually all female too. I'd have expected a couple of dumb males to have met their cumuppance.
I also didn't get the epilogue.

Question I posed in my The Conjuring review still stands:
Why on earth did the doll look so scary and demonic in the first place? It was made as a child's toy for heaven sakes.

Enjoyed. So 7/10

...but please no more Annabelle. Starting to lose it's originality.

It didn't really explain where this demon came from?!.....poor doll getting the blame! However the title of the movie is Annabelle: creation so it explained that part, at least! 6.5/10

I was in the front row and was jumping up and down like a yoyo! the guy next to me was a screamer, so we must looked really funny.

Some proper horrid stuff, but nothing that you'd not seen before in other films or TV shows. I got more spooked by the girl who ran out of the the cinema 8O

The screening last night was absolutely packed. It started off with no picture but only sound, so was quite creepy. Everyone just thought perhaps, that was how it was at the beginning, but after quite a long while, it was obvious it was not working, and we were told they were fixing it, then it started where it left off, then it went off again, and we all thought here we go again, but then it started properly, at the beginning!

I had a whale of a time, chuckled a lot, as ritamistry was sitting next to me between me and her OH. She squealed, cried out and jumped, grabbing her OH throughout ! LOL

I agree with stuarboy, it is a slow burner, but worth persevering. Lots of shocking scenes though. Great acting.

Only a handful left to see the end of the credits clip, everyone left as soon as it finished. Shame. Good clip.

Can't understand why they do not just kill the doll in the first place, and the child that died, she looked evil when she was alive!

I found it enjoyable, but too reliant on jump scares. Top-notch acting from the girls! 5.5/10

The people in the epilogue are characters from Annabelle (2014). Have a look at this synopsis.

This trod a very well worn path with it's family in peril story and reliance on jump scares.

Every trick in the book was used, I've only seen a couple of these recent type of horror films, Insidious and Dark Skies (I think), but even to me it felt very familiar and only the location and time period helped distinguish it.

Some people were shouting at the screen telling characters not to do this or that and I could hear them gasp or scream more than one on occasion. Usually that would be distracting, but I think it helped with my overall enjoyment.

I was also very impressed that they'd got Laura Linney to appear in this until I realised it wasn't her

Okay so it is only a movie but why the hell does everyone open a door in the middle of the night when they know they are not going to discover something pleasant behind it!!! Why did her father create a ghastly looking doll like this for his beloved daughter. He was good at carving so he would have been better making Pinocchio! 6/10

I thought this was ok, but nothing more.
The girl sitting next to me kept sniggering and that set me off, so we probably laughed through quite a lot of it!
The ending was bizarre, with that flash forward sequence. Just weird!

Annabelle: Creation

#10 Post by seb88 » Sat Aug 05, 2017 12:19 pm

Went to the free screening of Annabelle: Creation on Thursday. I really enjoyed the film. It was scary as such but was very jumpy. We all really enjoyed the film and it is something I would watch again and would b*y the DVD. Whats everyone elses point of view?.
