Thor: Ragnarok

#1 Post by prettyxcool » Mon Oct 23, 2017 11:18 am

I was lucky enough to be invited to a BAFTA screening with an intro by the very funny Director, Taika Waititi and Jeff Goldblum, who with their double act gave us such fun before the screening.

The film is predictable but so much fun as well as funny. Very lighthearted, with a great sense of humour, especially the "Get Help" - Hilarious! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lw1T6KYM_4I

I really loved it, except for Thor's new haircut. One I would love to watch again. 9/10

saw this at bfi imax, which was worth it as the picture frame changes between 3 sizes thru out, very funny, just about a 8/10

looks fantastic and i would recomend watch the 3d over the 2d version !!!

mid credit scene is worth a watch, the last end credit scene not so much.

A wonderfully colourful and frequently hilarious action romp that manages to allow Waititi to maintain his particular deadpan style of humour while always existing very much within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
There will probably be those that bemoan the sheer amount of humour and admittedly there are moments in the film where it does slightly undermine the emotional impact and the sense of danger that should be present.
Having said that, when a film is this much fun it's hard to get too bothered.

Chris Hemsworth gives his most enjoyable turn as Thor yet, clearly thrilled with the chance to poke more fun at the pompous side of the God of Thunder. A running joke which somehow manages to get funnier as the film progresses.
Tom Hiddlestone and Mark Ruffalo enter gamely into the spirit of things too giving Hemsworth two contrasting double acts to play with.
Cate Blanchett gives the franchise the most effective villain since..oh, Loki and Tessa Thompson and Karl Urban are welcome additions also (though Urban sports a cockney accent that is constantly threatening to go full Kiwi).
Jeff Goldblum is at his most Goldblum-ish which is of course a wonderful thing to behold, and the fact that his second in command is played by Rachel House (aka Hunt for the Wilderpeople's 'cop that never leaves anyone behind' Paula) is pretty awesome too.
Also keep an ear out for Waititi's now customary appearance in his own films.
There are several hilarious cameos I'm not going to spoil and not just the ones you're expecting.

At the end of the day however, Thor: Ragnarok is just a hell of a lot of fun. Visually striking and funnier than most comedies, it's a must see.

i admit it was enjoyable.. as somebody said.. predictable.... Not sure it adds anything at all to the marvel universe...
i always thought the grand master was a much more formidable character in the comicverse..... 7/10

Yeah it was fun. The gags maybe a bit too relentless and childish at points but equally some also land with great weight. Lots of action, good pace, cameos galore and no RDJ.. winner! 7/10

Glad to see some solid reactions to the movie. I'm guessing it's better than the first 2 Thor movies? I'm going to see it soon as well.

If you've visited these worlds before it's 2 hours of solid Mjölnir entertainment due to lots of interesting casting and character choices. It's a familiar story but the narrative goes to unusual places.

But it won't go down in movie legend because it has a very inconsistent style and tone. Had it been Heavy Metal Thor it would have been amazing, Flash Gordon Thor would have been derivative but appreciated. There's no sign of Origin Thor, a sprinkle of Thor 2 Thor and lots of Sore Thor.

Mixing them all together in 1 movie is strange, it led to the humour not quite working for me because the jokes can't play against type when the whole world is quirky to begin with. The SFX are patchy and if you look closely at the extras/costumes/sets there's almost a 'too real' feeling that plagued the Hobbit movies.

I've done no research but I wonder if the movie suffers from trying to stay on brand while being forged in a different way, Australi Thor?

I really loved this! So funny. Like when Thor said "So petty!".

Also, "The sun's getting low, the sun's getting real low."

just one note, the IMAX version is fishy, its not shot for the biggest screen. It jumps in size throughout the movie, which looks a little amateur - shame given the work put into the movie itself.

One of those movies that I'd knock off 1 star score for seeing in IMAX.
